I had a wonderful trip to Budapest and now I am back at home. It was great to be where I used to teach English and help with music at a Pentecostal church. Thank you so much for your prayers on my behalf!
As I mentioned in an earlier article, my journey was not a mission’s trip per se, and yet it was a mission’s trip. That is, I witnessed as much as possible to my former Hungarian English teacher colleagues and others that I met at my hotel and while I was out and about in town, I also ministered in song at the International Church.
I was in Hungary for almost a month and I couldn’t help but notice a large number of churches with a lack of parishioners. Less than one percent of Hungarian nationals attend church which is pretty standard for Europe in general. However, I was glad to minister in the International Church. I had the privilege of playing a Steinway piano at the cultural center where the congregation meets. Dan and Rose Smith, Church of God missionaries (formerly with the IPHC) asked me to play. Dan is the minister of music there and it was a pleasure to work with him.
As Dan and I were putting together the music for church, he asked me if I wanted to have the church sing any song in particular that I liked. I immediately thought of Shine Jesus Shine by Graham Kendrick. It has a wonderful melody, but I love the lyrics are even better. It speaks about the Lord filling the land with His presence and spreading the Gospel to all of the nations of the world. I also like this song because Graham Kendrick is from England where, like the rest of Europe, so many people do not attend church. Yet, God has always had a people! Join me in praying for souls to be saved all over Hungary, Europe, and the world.
I will share more good things about my Hungary trip in the days to follow. For now please enjoy the video of Shine Jesus Shine and consider singing it in your church.
Let me share with you the lyrics to this great song:
"Shine Jesus Shine"
Graham Kendrick
Lord, the light of Your love is shining
In the midst of the darkness, shining
Jesus, Light of the world, shine upon us
Set us free by the truth You now bring us
Shine on me, shine on me
Shine, Jesus, shine
Fill this land with the Father's glory
Blaze, Spirit, blaze
Set our hearts on fire
Flow, river, flow
Flood the nations with grace and mercy
Send forth Your word
Lord, and let there be light
Lord, I come to Your awesome presence
From the shadows into Your radiance
By the blood I may enter Your brightness
Search me,…
Blessings,
Greg
