![]() Shirley G. Spencer began work at the Headquarters of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church (Global Ministries Center) as executive secretary to the editor in chief of Publications. In January 1980, she was named executive editor of publications for the denomination. She was the first woman to fill that role, retiring in 2010 after 35 years of service. In her retirement, she continues to work as a freelance editor and writer. Shirley was ordained as a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the Heartland Conference of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church in April 2010. She considers her ministry as a Bible teacher a sacred trust. She teaches an adult discipleship class and serves as an elder at River of Life Church in Oklahoma City. She has served several years on the Discipleship Ministries Board in the Heartland Conference and is presently director of Omega Ministries, serving senior and retire ministers in the conference. During her tenure as executive editor, Shirley also served for 10 years on the Board of Directors of the Oklahoma Christian Education Association (OCEA), 29 years as secretary-treasurer of the International Pentecostal Press Association (IPPA), and 19 years as a member of the Pentecostal-Charismatic Curriculum Commission (PCCC). In 1999, she was elected as the first female to chair the PCCC. That Commission consists of representatives from five major Pentecostal denominations (IPHC, Assemblies of God, Church of God [Cleveland, TN], Pentecostal Church of God, and Church of God of Prophecy). The team develops the outlines from which the adult Sunday school curriculum is produced and published. I plan to publish the first of several Bible studies that Shirley Spencer has done from the Book of 1 John. She has carefully researched this Book of the New Testament that will prove to he helpful for pastors, teachers, and students. The first of five studies will be published in Sunday's Special Edition of Hugh's News School of Biblical Theology. Tell others about the work and ministry of Shirley G. Spencer. It was called "Operation Homecoming" when 31 POW's returned to the United States and to the USAF Regional Medical Center and Hospital at Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton, Ohio. John McCain did not come to our hospital.
I have often thought that of all the places I could have been stationed in the Air Force at that particular time in our nation's history, God in His providence permitted me to be at Wright-Patterson AFB to meet and minister to 31 POW's and hear their stories first hand. It was in my heart and mind to write a tribute to Senator John McCain who served our country as a naval aviator and after being shot down, was confined to a prison in North Vietnam for more than 5 years. Time ran out, but I have been able to find on the Internet the memorial service where John McCains body lies in state at U.S. Capitol. I have never been more excited and hopeful than any other time at this current season of my life. I dearly love my local church and what the Holy Spirit is doing in the lives of the people of our congregation. It is nothing less than God's gracious hand upon Christian Life Worship Center (a Pentecostal Holiness Church) in Athens, Georgia. God gave us a new pastor and his wife about a year ago. They are Terry and Pam Kesling. Our pastor is a great communicator who is honest, humble, intelligent, and transparent. His sermons are timely and deal with issues we all face as Christians with our families. God has anointed him to preach and lead this congregation to new and higher dimensions of God grace and unfailing love for all people. We are blessed to have two highly intelligent and talented leaders to serve as the facilitators for our Sunday school class, called Celebrate Life Now. Most of all, God has anointed them for this ministry, and it is evident to all. The Celebrate Life Now Sunday school class is a cross generational gathering of various ages of adults that meets on Sunday mornings to celebrate Jesus and study God's Holy Word, the Bible. Lavon and Arlette Revells are the teachers or facilitators. There is never a dull moment and they know how to get class members involved in the discussion of the subject material. If you want to experience a dynamic Sunday school class led by two dedicated facilitators and teachers you will want to be a part of our Celebrate Life Now class. My biggest regret is that you are not with me and afforded the opportunity of witnessing, first-hand, the missionary/ministry legacy that we have as a church. You would be so proud. Earlier this month, I was privileged to travel to Budapest, Hungary, and Oradea, Romania. Just a few quick observations: • Our missionaries have done and are doing a remarkable job. While in Budapest, I visited The Awakening’s International Base. This is the base that Dave and Linda Fannin envisioned. WMM is now in the process of completing the purchase of this building. Dave and Linda’s ministry imprint is stamped all over Hungary and Romania. As you talk with the Bulzans, Reshetinskys, and Ms. Revesz, you sense the gratitude and love that these leaders have for the Fannins and the IPHC. • Do not buy the line that millennials are not engaged and passionate. At EuroQuest, primarily a meeting for young adults/emerging leaders/millennials throughout Europe, I met leaders from 14 different countries that were on fire and sold out for the cause of Christ globally. Some of these leaders include: Max Barroso, Seth Nix, Krisztina Revesz [a disciple of Linda Fannin’s], Timothy Meadors, Janene Wooten, Carolyne Smith, Dreama Bryant, Allison Jones, Hannah Lafferty, Mariah Lumpkin, Morgan Wood, Justin Long, Katie Conrad, Javier Farias, Sarah Minnix, David Burgos, Donald Kumar, Pamela Lujan, Tibi Bulzan, Timotei Bulzan, Zophie Lakatos, Michael Al-Shackar, David Trujillo, and the son and daughter, Valerii and Nadezhda, of Bishop Reshetinsky in the Ukraine. The Lord says, "This is a time you are to walk on the waters. The circumstances around you are trying to pull you down and cause a swell to come against you. However, this is your time to walk upon what would cause you to falter and fail. "Watch the current ... for the waters are not still at this time. Watch the current ... or you will go in a direction from which you have difficulty removing yourself. Watch the current ... for if you will stay on top of the water, you will see your way to the next shore. "My voice is on the waters. My voice called Peter out of the boat and had him stand on the water. Listen for the voice that is calling you forward in your circumstances this week. Don't submit to a flooding current that would drag you to a place you don't need to be. "My call to you is very personal. Hear Me call your name so you can begin to gain direction. I am calling your name to show you the way. If you listen for My voice, I will pour out what you never could have imagined. Like My call to Abraham going up to sacrifice Isaac on Mount Moriah, I am calling you into an understanding and a sacrifice you've not had before. When you present this sacrifice, it will shift your supply lines properly. "Listen carefully as I begin to tell you the one thing I would have you do this week. Don't complicate or overthink it. I will tell you one simple thing, and when you obey Me it will cause you to receive the next piece to your puzzle." Walk the Waters and Claim What is Unclaimed "In past seasons, I've called you to walk the land like Abraham and claim it. But this is a season that I'm calling you to walk the waters and claim what is unclaimed in the waters. Know that there are going to be new assignments to the waters at this time. I'm calling you not to just walk the borders of the water, but to literally walk the waters from the east to the west and from the north to the south. I am now calling you to speak the order into what has been unclaimed from the depths of the wells that I spoke into order. I am calling you to speak the order into the water and walk out what is not in order in the water, to bring things into My order." Go Up and Not Under "Follow the river you are in, and watch the currents! Don't get into currents you shouldn't be in. Don't be pulled aside and listen to every little thing that can divert you and take you in a wrong direction. You don't need to be concerned over every little strange thing that's around you. Rather, follow the river and watch the currents. "Listen to My voice to keep you walking through the place you're in, and then come up—not under. As you come up, I will give you the new piece that is necessary for you to see clearly how I will provide in the future." [Charles D. "Chuck" Pierce serves as president of Global Spheres, Inc. The first seventeen verses of Genesis 9 are a direct quotation in God’s own words giving principles for you and me and the entire human race to live by. If we want to live a life that works, overcoming the weakness that resides in all of us, we must heed these principles. If we do not want to heed these principles, we have that freedom, but we will never live a life that works as it was created to work in the beginning. It would be similar to having a new computer with the most cutting edge technology, but using it only as a typewriter. It would do the job, but it wouldn’t even come close to fulfilling its potential. If we do not heed God’s principles for our lives, you and I can exist on this planet yet not even come close to fulfilling our potential or experiencing the abundant life God intended for us. One primary reason for the collapse of society all around us is due to indifference and outright rejection of God’s principles. Our human weaknesses have become dominant, and life just does not work. The Billy Graham Blessing or Benediction is the tool God has given to me to witness to Jesus Christ to those I meet. Yesterday, I needed to take my car, a 2010 Lincoln Continental Towncar to get it washed, vacuumed, and tires spread with Armoral. I saw the owner of Bulldog Car Wash, putting the finishing touches on a brand-new golf cart that could carry several people. He told me the cost was $11,000. The colors were Black and Red, the colors of the University of Georgia. The owner is Daniel. I asked him if he had ever heard of Billy Graham. He said, "Yes, I know who is he is." I shared about his death a few months ago and his burial at the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte next to his wife's grave. I mentioned he was 99 years old when he died. However, if you add the 9 months he was in his mother's womb, and we believe that life begins at conception, then Billy Graham was 100 years old when he died. I told Daniel that sometime, some months before he died, Billy Graham wrote a blessing or a benediction that I discovered in the Decision magazine. I liked it so much that I have memorized it. May I share it with you right now. He said, "Yes." Daniel took off his baseball cap in reverence to this benediction and bowed his head. He loved it. I gave him my ministry card which Arlette Revells, founder, CEO, of Great Works, Inc. designed and printed for me. She has printed 2,000 ministry cards which I want to show one to you. See the card below both front and back: Daniel read it on the card and place it in his billfold. He said, "I will cherish this blessing and I will keep it with me always."
You can do what I am doing. We are to go and share the Gospel of Jesus everywhere. I shared it with cash register young lady, and several of the workers, and a couple sitting on the porch of the administration facility. ![]() Worried about a child headed off to school?
