When I was leaving home to enter the United States Marine Corps in August 1953, my father, Hugh Henry Morgan, said these words to his 19-year-old son, that was me . . . "Hugh, Anything that is not connected ultimately with eternity in heaven is not worth your time." That word guided me in my decisions and choices.
We use to sing "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus." The lyrics go like this:
Turn you eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face;
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace.
The key to success in life is keeping your focus on Jesus. He is your Source of the abundant life that God would have you have. He will direct your steps and guide you through the Holy Spirit to heights of joy and peace that the world can never give.
Your life can be a spiritually guided tour by the Holy Spirit. Stay in the Bible for your spiritual food, instruction in your faith, and authority for your beliefs. Seek to know the truth, and be willing to stand alone if necessary to maintain your integrity. The majority is not always right. God will give you moral courage to stand for truth. Remember Joshua and Caleb. They gave Moses the report of faith. If Moses has listened to them, they would not have had to wander in the wilderness for forty years. You can avoid unintended consequences that come from bad decisions.
Be sure to be faithful and loyal to your church. There is added strength, power, love, and discipline when you stay with the church.
Put Jesus Christ first in your life, and everything you need will be given to you by God.
