Psalm 31:15
"My times are in Your Hands"
NIV
In this 31st Psalm, David pours his heart out to God. In the midst of conflict and enemies all around him, he confesses his trust in God and declares boldly, "You are my God." His faith increases as he prays, "Let your face shine on Your servant; save me in Your unfailing love" (v. 16).
What does it mean to you, "My times are in Your Hands"?
I asked someone what this saying, "My times are in Your Hands" means to him, and he said, "God is constantly with me." That is a good answer. It is his experience that God is constantly with him in a long and fruitful life, and he is now 93 years old.
For me, it means that my whole life is in God's Hands. All of the events that have happened or may happen or do occur in my life are under the control of Almighty God. Nothing beyond the scope of His loving care can happen without His permission. Whether in times of sickness, times of health, times of trouble, times of joy, life, death, all and every event, for time, and for eternity I can trust God to be with me and help me.
James, a brother of Jesus, wrote, "For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away" (James 4:14, NKJV). James reminds us of the brevity of life and challenges us to place our trust in God to make the best use of the time allotted to us to accomplish His Will.
The time of my death, He has determined. Therefore, I don't have to worry for I know I have been redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus and my name is written down in the Lamb's Book of Life. One day I shall go to be with Jesus Christ forever and experience the unending joys of heaven. My trust is in Him.
In writing to the Ephesian Church the Apostle Paul wrote, "See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil" (Eph. 5:15-16, NKJV).
One additional thought before I bring this message to a close is recorded in 1 Corinthians 2:9-12:
9 But as it is written:
"Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,
Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him."
10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit Who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.
1 Corinthians 2:9-12, NKJV
May God enable us to do the Will of God daily by making the best use of the time we have. Let us live a life this day that is well-pleasing in God's sight.
