The Rev. Dr. David Sparks, senior pastor of Flat Rock Pentecostal Holiness Church in Mt. Airy, NC, has been a choice friend for many years. He is solid as a rock and has served the congregation of this great church in the Cornerstone Conference for 22 years as their pastor. He has staying grace. He is not a fly by night pastor. He sticks to his commitment and keeps his word.
Today, is Women's Ministries Day at Flat Rock P. H. Church. The ladies have planned a super colossal program with a tremendous guest speaker. David's daughter is the Women's Ministries President and she has planned for special singing for the occasion too.
Now, to my story about a surprise gift. David Sparks sent me a book in the mail which I received on Friday. The book is entitled Holy Humor. It is loaded with jokes, cartoons, and much more. I am sure that David did not want me to run out of joke material. The readers of Hugh's News have indicated it is the favorite article they read in each issue of this electronic newsletter. You can give Dr. Lonnie Rex all the credit for insisting that I add a humorous story or joke in every Hugh's News. He was relentless. I finally gave in and decided I would try it. Now I realize that I probably needed these jokes far more than you. I have a need to laugh more. I am too serious. Arlette Revells, our 2016 Hugh's News Woman of the Year can read them with absolute perfection. She knows how to make the joke come alive with her terrific voice that exudes enthusiasm.
What is even more important than the book itself, is that David placed bookmarks throughout the book in strategic places. Each one is a crisp $5 bill, real money that you can spend. If I remember my multiplication tables from grammar school 8 x $5=$40. What a valuable gift. What a thoughtful man and pastor.
David suggested that I consider taking Melvine out to dine at a nice restaurant or if I so choose, I can deposit the forty dollars in Hugh's News, Inc. for the needs of this newsletter.
2017 is the 20th year of producing Hugh's News. It is a significant anniversary. God in His abundant love, grace and sustaining power has led us all the way to this year of celebration. I want to thank all of you who have given $20 in a special offering to commemorate this milestone of success. It is my hope that more of you will consider giving $20 during this time period. Hugh's News is dependent upon your contributions.
At the very bottom of this newsletter is a blog instructing you how you can give.
