Why do I promote Holmes Bible College and encourage people to give to the college?

I would like to re-visit the article I wrote earlier this week about the urgent need that Dr. James D,  Leggett, president of Holmes Bible College, has to raise $150,000 to complete the new dormitory on the new campus in Greenville, SC.

I failed to mention the main reason why I support the college and will encourage you and others to give as you are able to give, and as the Holy Spirit prompts you to give.

The main reason I have for lifting up the hands of a great leader, Bible teacher, expository preacher, and adminsitrator, is that I truly believe with all my heart that God still has a divine plan and purpose for this oldest continuous running Bible college in the world.

It just so happens that Bishop James D. Leggett has accepted the biggest challenge and opportunity of his life. I know of no other man presently who can reunite the college with the Pentecostal churches--Assemblies of God, Church of God, Pentecostal Holiness, Pentecostal Free-Will Baptist Church, Congregational Holiness Church, and others that may not be Pentecostal.

We know that Dr. Leggett will serve 10 or 12 years and then retire. He could do that now, but he believes God has called him to rebuild a dying Bible college and see God bring it to a new level of influence in the church world and make a difference in the world in which we live. He is committed to educating and training some of the brightest and best students God is sending now to the college. The Holy Spirit will draw students as they learn about this outstanding Bible college.

I am confident that God has the man in place even now that He is grooming and preparing to take the leadership of the college to the next higher level when President Leggett moves on to the next chapter of his life. It takes faith to believe what I am telling you, but it is true. The Bible and History support my belief.

One of my avid readers of Hugh's News and who is a leader in the church world sent this statement to me that I thought was perfect for this time:

"Preparing the Messengers of the Gospel in this 21 Century, we must be sure all the needs are met so Holmes Bible College will continue training ministers, missionaries and chaplains until the Rapture of the Church--the Bride of Christ."

He is right . . . don't you agree?

Here is what I had written earlier this week:

As Dr. James D. Leggett and I  concluded our telephone call on Thursday, July 28, 2011, he informed me that he needs $150,000 to complete the new dormitory debt free on the new campus of Holmes Bible College.

The latest studies on charitable giving seems to indicate that there has been a major paradigm shift in those who are generous in their giving. To my surprise, I learned that those generations born after 1960 now constitutes the majority of givers the church and colleges can rely upon to give.

However, I still believe that my generation (those in their Seventies and Eighties even Nineties) is generous and will give when we can feel we belong and have a part of the ministry and thus claim ownership, i. e., Holmes Bible College is my college and I want to support it financially and with my prayers.

Someone asked me why? would I help the new president raise any money for the college. That is a good question. Let me give you my answer.

First of all, God called James D. Leggett to fore-go retirement and lead this great Bible College to greatness again. I am confident he did not know about the tremendous debt he was inheriting--like a million dollar mortgage on the new campus, not only the construction of the first building, but the infrastructure, driveway, parking. lights, water, gas, etc.

Second, Dr. Leggett needs my help and yours. My greatest contribution to the college is not money, although I give to the college, but the influence I believe God has given me through Hugh's News. You see, I believe that there is a reader, maybe more than one, who could very easily give $150,000 immediately to the college to pay for the completion of this new dormitory.

Third, there are other needs as well. I have written about them. Let me rehearse those urgent needs for you just now:

1. 50 chairs for classrooms and chapel @ $30 per chair=$1,500.

2. Storage/work facility--$20,000

3. Tractor--$8,000

4. Golf Cart/Utility vehicle--$5,000

5. Riding mower--$2,000-$3,000

The money has been given for the new tables in the classrooms--$500 per room.

Why not give President James D. Leggett a telephone call at (864) 246-3566, or send him a letter at Holmes Bible College at P. O. Box 14188, Greenville, SC 29610-4188.

Contributions may be made by means of a check, credit card, or cash withdrawal. Make out all checks to Holmes Bible College. Please contact Mrs. Wanda Bucklew at business@holmes.edu.

If you know of anyone who would like to receive The Voice of Holmes, please send their information to president@holmes.edu, holmesbc@holmes.edu, or business@holmes.edu. You may also call (864) 246-3566.

God will direct you to give what He wants you to trust Him for in your giving to Holmes Bible College. Let us lift up the hands of this great leader, Dr. James D. Leggett. I am sure that all of us want Holmes Bible College to rise to new heights and achieve all that God wants for this Pentecostal Bible college in the 21st Century.
