I am in he process of reading Billy Graham's latest book, Nearing Home, Life, Faith, and Finishing Well.
It is a challenging and most thoughtful presentation of the myriad of issues that one faces as he or she grows older.
Graham writes, "Old age is not for sissies."
God, indeed, has a purpose for the longevity of our many years. It is our task to align our lives with God's Will for our lives and learn to gain victory over the fears, struggles, and limitations we will face, and in that process grow stronger inwardly in the midst of difficulties and challenges.
I have probably needed to read this book more than anyone else as I face retirement and the aging process.
Although I had read the following story and used it in my writing and preaching, Billy Graham writes about it in this book. He very skillfully weaves the story about the Will of the late J. P. Morgan, who was noted as one of the most influential bakers and businessmen in our history, to illustrate the importance and value of preparing a will. After his death in 1913, Morgan's Will was read. I think I should add his statement of faith to my own Will:
"I commit my soul into the hands of my Saviour, in full confidence that having redeemed it and washed it in His most precious blood He will present it faultless before the throne of my Heavenly Father, and I entreat my children to maintain and defend, at all hazard, and at any cost of personal sacrifice, the blessed doctrine of the complete atonement for sin through the blood of Jesus Christ, once offered, and through that alone."
I like what J. P. Morgan wrote and I firmly believe it to be true and accurate. Not only was J. P. a noted banker and businessman, he knew Biblical theology. What a clear statement about his faith in the shed blood of Jesus Christ for his complete atonement. That is also my statement of faith in the merits of the blood of Jesus. Only the blood of Jesus can wash away my sins, and make me whole again.
I personally love the benedition given to us by the writer of the Book of Hebrews. Although some Bible scholars disagree about the authorship of this book, it is my belief that the Apostle Paul wrote it. You may disagree with me, and I will still respect you and your opinion. I hope you will respect me and mine belief.
Hebrews 13:20-21
Now the God of peace, Who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,
Make you perfect in every good work to do His will, working in you that which is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ; to Whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. KJV
If you have not done so, may I invite you to give your heart and life to Jesus Christ today.
The Apostle Paul gives us the way to become a Christian or a disciple of Jesus Christ. He wrote, that there must be "repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ" (Acts 20:21, KJV).
Repentance means changing your mind about sin, turning from it and coming to God. In that process we renounce sin in our lives and depart from that lifestyle. As we move toward God in an act of repentance, we place our lives into the hands of Jesus Christ and surrender to Him and His plan and will for our lives. When you and I repent of our sins and give our lives completely to the Lord Jesus Christ, He can and will radically change our lives forever.
Will you trust Him just now?
Here's a song that says it perfectly:
1. Come, ev'ry soul by sin oppressed
There's mercy with the Lord,
And He will surely give you rest
By trusting in His Word.
2. For Jesus shed His precious blood,
Rich blessings to bestow;
Plunge now into the crimson flood
That washes white as snow.
3. Yes, Jesus is the Truth, the Way,
That leads you into rest;
Believe in Him without delay
And you are fully blest.
Chorus:
Only trust Him, only trust Him,
Only trust Him now;
He will save you, He will save you,
He will save you now.
If you prayed to invite Jesus into your heart today, would you write me and let me know?
I am Hugh Morgan who will be 79 years old on December 15. I invited Jesus into my heart when I was only six years old. I have never regretted that decision.

Tell someone today in order to seal your commitment to Jesus Christ by the word of your own testimony. Then, find a Bible believing Church that lifts up Jesus Christ, begin to read your Bible daily and talk with God in prayer each day. As you think of God, praise Him not only for the gift of life, but the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Let me welcome you into the family of God.
