I received a telephone call on Friday morning, May 28, 2010, from Ruthe Wlliams Brookshire, a sister to Sylvia Williams Swails, and to Gayla Williams List. Ruthe is the widow of the late Navy Chaplain Joseph Brookshire, the Robert Schuller of the IPHC.
Well, I said all of that, to let you know that Ruthe thanked me for the family for publishing the news about John Swails' illness. Had not the doctor in Athens operated on him, he would have died within 24 hours. He had a raging bacterial infection in his left arm that was eating tissue and muscle. The surgeon left the wound open just in case they had to go back in and clean it up.
On Friday, May 28, they wanted to do an MRI, but each time they laid him on his back in the machine his blood pressure went up. So, they were not able to complete this procedure.
Brother John Swails needs a mighty healing touch from the Lord Jesus Christ, our Healer. His son, Jim, who is a medical doctor, is staying with his father around the clock.
Let me now, share with you three Scriptures about healing. As we read them, let us offer them as a prayer of faith for Brother John Swails.
First, 1 Thessalonians 5:23, 24,
“May God Himself, the God Who makes everything holy and whole, make you holy and whole, put you together—spirit, soul, and body—and keep you fit for the coming of our Master, Jesus Christ. The One Who called you is completely dependable. If He said it. He will do it! (The Message, Eugene H. Peterson).
Second, 3 John 2,
“Beloved, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers.”
Third, Jeremiah 30:17a,
“For I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds, says the Lord.”
Fourth, Isaiah 57:18, 19,
“I have seen his ways, and will heal him: I will lead him also, and restore comforts unto him and to his mourners. I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to him that is far off, and to him that is near, says the Lord; and I will heal him.”
God never changes. His Word endures to all generations. When all hope seems to be gone, we like Abraham, who against hope believed in hope and received the promise of God.
Romans 4:18
Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations; according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.
