As I prepare this Hugh's News for publication today, Wednesday, September 14, 2010, three of my friends are in need of our prayers for God's intervention in their lives for healing of their bodies.
Russell Gunter
The first is Captain Russell Gunter, Chaplain, United States Navy, Retired, who was admitted to Bethesda Navy Hospital today for tests for his heart. He was to have a heart catherization followed by an EET or "electrocardiography test."
Bishop Wesley Russ, superintendent of the Mid-Atlantic Conference, called a few minutes ago, and told me that the tests today revealed that Russell will need triple by-pass artery surgery and the mitral value replacement. The surgery will begin at 7 a. m. on Wednesday, September 15, 2010.
Russell and Daphany have asked me to share with you my readers their prayer request for divine guidance for the surgeon and consulting doctors, and successful surgery. They know that Jesus is the Healer. Their faith is in God.
Russell was an outstanding Navy chaplain and served as the executive director of the Armed Forces Chaplains Board in the Pentagon on his final assignment prior to his retirement. Although the Gunters reside in Woodbridge, VA (near Quantico Marine Base--the showcase of the Marine Corps), Russell maintains his ordination credentials in the Alpha (Alabama) Conference.
David Stansell
The other prayer request is for David Stansell, a retired engineer from Bell South. He, Sandra, and their daughter, Kelley, and grandson, Chase, reside in Anderson, SC, where David purchased a farm. He has been a great leader in Royal Rangers and Men's Ministries. He was a deacon of Tarkenton Memorial Church in Athens, GA, when I was the senior pastor.
Yesterday, Tuesday, September 14, 2010, David had a heart attack. He was admitted to the AMED Center in Anderson, SC. The tests revealed he had one artery with 100% blockage, and two arteries with 30 and 40 % blockages respectively.
David's young grandson, Chase, saw his Papa have the attack and is having a tough time processing it all. Pray for the entire family--Sandra (wife) Kelly and David, Jr.
Damon Burrows
I was just informed that the Rev. Dr. Damon Burrows of Enid, OK, will be driving up to Wichita, KS, tomorrow to the Veterans Hospital where he will have have a melanoma cancer removed from the crown of his head. He writes, "My doctor is a great Christian man and I am blessed to have him to be my doctor for this situation."
Damon and Marilyn Burrows are dear friends of mine. I met Damon in 1970 in Houston, TX. He was doing evangelism called, "Action in the Avenues." He is a born soul-winner, and does so with great effectiveness. He served as the administrative assistant to Bishop Leon O. Stewart. He served on our Chaplains Ministries, IPHC Board for eight (8) years. He is a servant leader, and I always address my e-mails like this: Dear Diamond Damon. His son, David is the chairman of the Board of Regents at Southwestern Christian University, and his other son, Damon, is an attorney in California. I believe God will heal Damon.
The Scriptures are full of God's promises for our healing:
First, 1 Thessalonians 5:23, 24,
“May God Himself, the God Who makes everything holy and whole, make you holy and whole, put you together—spirit, soul, and body—and keep you fit for the coming of our Master, Jesus Christ. The One Who called you is completely dependable. If He said it. He will do it!" (The Message, Eugene H. Peterson).
Second, 3 John 2,
“Beloved, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers.”
Third, Jeremiah 30:17a,
“For I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds, says the Lord.”
Fourth, Isaiah 57:18, 19,
“I have seen his ways, and will heal him: I will lead him also, and restore comforts unto him and to his mourners. I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to him that is far off, and to him that is near, says the Lord; and I will heal him.”
Fifth, Psalm 103:1-3,
“Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities; who heals all your diseases.”
Let us pray for these three men that their bodies and their vital organs will come into alignment or agreement with the Word of God for their complete healing and recovery.
