Todd Morgan Beamer, a Great American Hero on 9/11/01

The following information has been researched by the editor, Hugh H. Morgan, as the result of Bishop Leroy Baker's anointed and powerful message for Easter. The words you have just read in this most unusual sermon is weighted with powerful insights that God will give to you concerning your own life and journey with the Lord Jesus Christ. It may unlock for you mysteries that have not been revealed in your life.

This report is dedicated to the memory of Todd Morgan Beamer. He was a true America hero of September 11, 2001.

The following is an account of the events on that fateful day, 9/11/01:

At 9:45 a. m. September 11, 2001, GTE Airfone operator Lisa D. Jefferson heard screams and a scuffle on hijacked United Airlines Flight 93 before she was disconnected. She had been talking to Todd Beamer, who told her that he and some of the other passengers, “We’re going to do something.” He asked her to tell his wife and two boys that he loved them and then asked her to pray with him. He prayed the Lord's Prayer and she joined him.

The last thing she reports hearing him say was, “Are you guys ready?” And then, “Let’s roll.”

Taken from news reports:

Somewhere over Pennsylvania another high-jacked airliner loaded with passengers is believed to be headed for the nation’s Capitol or the White House. We now know it was United Airlines Flight 93 that had taken off from Newark, New Jersey, and was in route to San Francisco, California. Todd Morgan Beamer tried to place a credit card call through on the back of a plane seat, but was routed to a customer-service representative instead, who passed him on to GTE supervisor Lisa Jefferson.

Beamer reported that one passenger was killed, and a flight attendant told him that the pilot and co-pilot had been forced from the cockpit, and may have been wounded. He was on the phone when the plane made its turn in southeasterly direction. He told the operator that some of the plane’s passengers were planning to “jump on the hijackers.” According to Lisa Jefferson, GTE operator. Beamers’s last audible words were “Are You guys ready? Let’s roll.”

United Airlines Flight 93 crashed in Shankville, Pennsylvania.

Todd Beamer was 32 years old and has been called a hero for his actions on the September 11, 2001 attacks.

Vice President Dick Chaney said, “We will never know for sure but without question the attack would have been much worse if it hadn’t been for the courageous acts of these individuals of United Flight 93 that was flown into the ground."

Todd Beamer who was a passenger aboard United Airlines Flight 93 on Tuesday, September 11, 2001, and, according to an operator who talked to him during the flight, led other passengers, Tom Barrett, Geremy Click, and maybe others to take action against the plane's terrorist hijackers just before the plane crashed in southwest Pennsylvania.  She said the last words she heard Todd say was "LET'S ROLL!"

Beamer's phrase "Let's roll" was widely cited and later became a battle cry for those fighting Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan.

At least four facilities have been named for Beamer: a post office in Cranbury, New Jersey; Todd Beamer High School in Federal Way, Washington; the Todd M. Beamer Student Center at Wheaton College; and a neighborhood park in Fresno, California.

The Cranbury Post Office was dedicated to Todd Beamer on May 4, 2002, as a result of an Act of Congress authored by Congressman Rush D. Holt, Jr. The bill was signed into law by President George W. Bush.

Beamer was posthumously awarded with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award in 2002.

Todd Beamer is the passenger heard via cell phone uttering the now famous phrase, "Let's Roll!"  before he and three other men: Jeffery Glick, 31; Thomas Burnett Jr., 38; Mark Bingham, 31; moved to take the plane from terrorist control. The phrase "Let's Roll!"  became a symbol of the bravery shown that day by the passengers of Flight 93.

Lisa Beamer, Todd Morgan Beamer's wife, worked hard to come to terms with her loss and reclaim her life from the terror of that day. She wrote a book about Todd Beamer called Let's Roll!: Ordinary People, Extraordinary Courage and used the money to establish the Todd M. Beamer Foundation, now known as Heroic Choices, an organization that helps children who have been through trauma.

Beamer attended Los Gatos High School, Wheaton Academy, DePaul University, California State University, Fresno and Wheaton College. In September 2001, he was an account manager for Oracle and resided in Cranbury, New Jersey, with his wife, Lisa Beamer, and two sons, David and Drew. His daughter, Morgan Kay, was born January 9, 2002, approximately four months after Beamer's death.

[Editor's Note: May God bless the memory of Todd Morgan Beamer and the others who assisted him in taking charge of the situation by attacking the terrorists. That takes "Moral Courage." It is not something that you can muster up at any time, but is a God-given stirring of the spirit of bravery that overcomes all fear.

I, for one, have been deeply moved by Bishop Leroy Baker's sermon. I hope it will encourage pastors all across our land and around the world to preach about the Sacrifice that Jesus paid to purchase our salvation.

The Apostle Paul says it best in the following Scripture about man's reconciliation to God through Christ. God took the initiative to redeem a fallen and lost human race.

2 Corinthians 5:19-6:1
God was in Christ  reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.

20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God. 21 For He made Him Who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
NKJV

If you have not received Christ as your Savior and Lord, I implore you to repent of your sins, confess them, and place you faith in Jesus Christ to save you now.

In the Book of Isaiah, the Prophet gives us these instructions and guidelines:

Isaiah 55:6-7
Seek the Lord while you can find Him. Call upon Him now while He is near. 7 Let men cast off their wicked deeds; let them banish from their minds the very thought of doing wrong! Let them turn to the Lord that He may have mercy upon them, and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon!
