Today’s Scripture text is recorded in Proverbs 18:21

A good example of this Scripture is the triumph of Georgia over Auburn for the fourth straight year.

The first half of the football game between Auburn and Georgia on Saturday, November 14, 2009, was dominated by Auburn. Both of these SEC teams are highly talented, well coached, disciplined, and ready to play and win. However, only one team can win, even if it comes down to a difference of one point.

At half time the scoreboard showed that Auburn was ahead 14-7. However, senior defensive tackle Jeff Owens informed his teammates that he had no intentions of ending his college career with a lost to Auburn. His teammates prior to his speaking were silent. But he spoke what he believed in his heart (spirit). His youth-dominating teammates took Owen's words to heart, rebounded from the halftime deficit to rally past the Tigers 31-24.

This is just one example of the power of belief, speaking what we believe and seeing it motivate others to give their best efforts as a team to win the game.

The late Dr. Edwin Louis Cole who often said, “We are only bound by what we confess.”

It takes far more than physical conditioning, coaching, knowing the rules of a football game, talent, a good offense and defense to win a football game. It equally depends upon believing and speaking life and a spirit of victory. There is power in the tongue for life or death. We must choose.
