The following e-mail was received from Rob York on Wednesday evening, March 30, 2011, as I was finishing up this newsletter:
Thurnace York, our dad, will be 85 years old on April 10, 2011! We would like to invite you to help us "shower" him with birthday cards and well wishes from his friends and relatives. No gifts please. Mailed cards and electronic greetings are welcome. If you want to participate in the "shower" please send greetings to:
Thurnace York
1022 Pyramid Drive
Corpus Christi, Texas 78412
or e-mail to:
thurnace@yahoo.com
We are sure Dad will enjoy hearing from all of you. By the way, if you can't aim for April 10th, that is fine. Greetings received before or after April 10th will extend his joy!.
We thank you for helping to make his day so special this year,
Thurnace's sons,
Christopher and Robin York
[Editor's comment: I met Thurnace York and Ron Turton, Ruth Cato Turton's husband, at River Springs Camp Meeting in the late 50s. Joel McGraw and I stood for hours and listened to these older ministers tell their fascinating stories of the most unusual experiences they had had. I can tell you we were spell-bound and hung on to every story, joke, and spin they had. In fact, we stayed up until the dawn of a new day. We were not tired, but filled with exhilaration. When you are having fun, time seems to be no factor, and we were so young we didn't even recognize any fatigue.
Thurnace is a great musician. He plays piano and organ. He has played for Billy Graham and Oral Roberts. He is a chalk-talk artist, one of the best in the known world. He is a Pentecostal preacher and my how he can do that. He laughs a lot and it's fun to be around him. He has traveled the world over several times. I talk with him by phone from time to time. When he is in the Atlanta area visiting one of his sons, I endeavor to drive over to a nice restaurant to have lunch with him. We keep in touch by e-mail and phone.
I know your birthday greetings to him will be so meaningful to him. There are many people in Canada that know him, as well as in Oklahoma and Texas, even all the way to Virginia Beach, VA.
Let me be one of the first to say, "Happy 85th Birthday, Thurnace. May God grant you many more years of wisdom and glowing health" (Daniel 2:23, The Living Bible).
