The Rev. Dr. John Hedgepeth says that Bother John Swails as a man was a "North Star"

Here is John Hedgepeth's tribute to John W. Swails:

Our hearts were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Brother John Swails. Having been one of his students in 1959, I was challenged by his amazing ability to memorize the Scripture and give so many clear and sound doctrinal principles. After sitting in his class for just one semester, one could see that he was one of the very best Bible teachers in the country.

John Swails made you want to memorize. He brought truth home to us and made it live. Our lives were spiritually and Biblically shaped by this great man.

For me personally, there have been very few men who have had the profound influence on my life and ministry as Brother Swails. His teachings, his prayers, his articulation, and his power of communication will be landmarks in my life for a long time to come.

How do we measure the lasting influence of one man upon our generation? As a Bible teacher, he was unequaled. As a preacher of righteousness, he was par excellent. As a scholar, he was matchless. As a father, he was a role model. As a man of principle, he was a "North Star."

I pray that we will never forget John Swails and the impact that he had upon all of us. May we all hold to our hearts all of the things he taught us. May we cherish them. May we embrace them. They will surely make us proud some day.

Fay and I express our deepest sympathy to his wife, Sylvia, and his fine sons and to all of his family on this eternal day.

Warmest regards,

John Hedgepeth
