It is a joy and a personal delight to inform you that the Rev. Dr. Gerald Thomas Hopkins will be the Homecoming Speaker/Preacher at Christian Life Worship Center, formerly Tarkenton Memorial Church, in Athens, Georgia, on Sunday, September 15, 2013.
The Rev. Mr. J. Brian Williams is our senior pastor.
The church is located at 125 Kathwood drive, Athens, GA 30607, one mile west from the perimeter of Athens just off US Highway 129, the Jefferson Highway.
The famous church choir will be singing the old fashioned Gospel songs that will make you shout and praise God, as well as some of the finest church music written in modern times with Biblical theology. Charles Terry is our choir director.
The Rev. Dr. Rodney Callahan will give the prayer of invocation. The Rev. Mr. Lawrence Johnson will provide the pastoral prayer, and the Rev. Dr. Hugh H. Morgan will pronounce the benediction.
We will have our annual "dinner on the grounds." The best cookers in the known world are members of our church, and the food is always plentiful. For those preparing food, we ask you to bring enough for your family plus two, in preparing your meal, please bring an entree, vegetables, bread and dessert. Tea, coffee, ice, and paper products will be provided.
You are welcome, and Hugh's News extends a personal invitation for you to join us on Sunday, September 15, 2013, at 10:30 a m.
And now . . . let me tell you more about our guest homecoming preacher, the Rev. Dr. Jerry Hopkins.
Jerry (that's the way it is spelled) is the middle son of the late Rev. Dr. Paul and Dorothy Hopkins. His older brother, Kenneth, served as the Head of the Dentistry Department of St. Jude's Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. His younger brother, David, served as President of Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Georgia.
Jerry married the former Linda Jean Wilson on February 20, 1960, and that means they have celebrated their 53rd Wedding Anniversary this year of 2013. Congratulations!
Jerry and Linda Hopkins have two adult children, both are married. Their daughter, Cynthia Rene McDougall, a graduate of Emmanuel College, served along with her husband as Children's Church directors and administrators of New Life Academy and Child Development Center. His son, Timothy Lee Hopkins, a graduate of Furman University, served as Business Administrator and Minister of Music at his last pastorate.
Jerry is a graduate of Messick High School in Memphis, Tennessee, and is a graduate of Emmanuel College in June 1959. He studied Greek by correspondence at Moody Bible Institute. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Logos Christian College, and was awarded the Doctor of Divinity degree from Indiana Christian University in December 1986.
Jerry was licensed into the ministry in the Tri-State Conference (now called Tennessee Valley Conference) of the Pentecostal Holiness Church in July 1959, and ordained in the Georgia Conference (now renamed LifePoint Ministries) of the Pentecostal Holiness Church in 1960.
Jerry Hopkins has served a number of Pentecostal Holiness Churches for a total of pastoral ministry of 47 years. He founded and served as Senior Pastor of New Life Christian Fellowship, Greenville, South Carolina 1978 until his retirement. He was named Pastor Emeritus.
