The following testimony is indicative of countless hundreds of our people living in a highly mobile society who seek a connection with their church roots. In this particular case, it is a desired and wanted connection with the International Pentecostal Holiness Church.
The writer is Jim Mashburn, a son of Chaplain (Colonel) Freeman and Colleen Mashburn. Jim is a retired Navy Pilot. He flew the C-12 and SH-60B helicopter while performing VIP, Search and Rescue, and tactical combat support. He retired as a Lieutenant Commander.
Jim Mashburn e-mail reveals a deep commitment that he has to our church, to his family, and the longing to keep connected. Hugh's News is providing a vital link in this 21st Century by keeping our people in touch and connected who are scattered all over the United States, and in some instances in countries overseas. It is refreshing and so encouraging to learn that Hugh's News is making a difference in the lives of those who still hold an allegiance to the Pentecostal Holiness Church.
And now for Jim Mashburn's e-mail:
"Hugh,
"Thank you providing Hugh's News. Your letters keep me engaged and strengthen my roots with my church family. With your informative and uplifting writings I remain connected to the Pentecostal Holiness Church even though we don't have a local PH church to attend.
"Family update: Brenton my oldest son just turned 21. He is the youth worship leader of East Lake Church in San Diego (possibly the largest youth group in the country). He was just asked by the church to become the new worship pastor for East Lake's fast growing satellite campus 'East Lake Church Rancho San Diego.' This satellite campus just outgrew the movie theater they were meeting in and moved to a local college performing arts auditorium. This is a significant move for Brenton as he pursues his calling as an adult music and worship leader.
"I believe that his success thus far is attributed to his grandfather's prayers (Freeman) and his grandmother's (Colleen) vocal and musical talent. Now as Brenton's ministry changes focus from youth to adult we seek your 'prayer-horsepower.' Will you pray for the continued spiritual passion and growth that Brenton will need to lead others to Christ?
May God continue to bless your ministry.
Jim Mashburn
[Editor's comment: Let us thank God for what He is doing in the life and ministry of Brenton Mashburn, the son of Jim Mashburn and the grandson of Freeman and Colleen Mashburn. There is no distance in prayer, and we are commanded in Holy Scriptures to pray one for another.
We, who are parents, want our children to do well in life. The same is true for those who have grand children. Most of all, we want them to be saved, sanctified and baptized with the Holy Spirit. In reading Luke's record of the birth of John the Baptist, he tell us that John was filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb. In order to do any ministry we all need to be filled with the Holy Spirit. The Scriptures tell us,"Greater is He Who is within us than he who is in the world" (1 John 4:4).
