Jonathan Potter, an ordained minister of the Sunshine Conference (Florida), and who preaches on Wednesday nights at Metro Church of God in Birmingham, Alabama, has written a book entitled, Spiritual Identity Fraud--Restoring God's Sons and Daughters. It is a book that may open up the dark secrets of the human heart and soul for both men and women who have been entrapped by fear, shame, loneliness, and isolation. In his book he points to Jesus Christ who can set them free and make them whole.
In J. Lee Grady's foreword to Jon Potter's book, he wrote: "Thomas Dewar, the famous Scottish whiskey baron who died in 1930, once said: 'An honest confession is good for the soul, but bad for the reputation.'" He points out that many men in that day covered up their sins in order to get ahead in the business world.
"The same is true today for the majority of men. We don’t really know how to be honest," wrote Grady. "We learn at an early age to build fortresses of macho pride. We put on body armor and pretend to be tough. We never allow anyone to see our weaknesses."
Lee Grady says, "Men today are looking for all kinds of ways to cover their guilt: Many guys turn to the numbing influence of alcohol or drugs; others try sex; still others fill their time with sports or video games so they don’t have to think about eternal realities. And many church-going men cover themselves with religion without fully knowing the power of Christ’s forgiveness."
This book may help unlock the door of hidden secrets in your life so that you can find in Jesus Christ genuine forgiveness and healing that you desperately need and want.
Frannie Crosby wrote some powerful words about what God's love and grace can do in the human heart "Rescue the Perishing." Read these comforting and assuring words in the third stanza of her hymn:
"Down in the human heart, crushed by the tempter,
Feelings lie buried that grace can restore;
Touched by a loving heart, wakened by kindness,
Chords that were broken will vibrate once more."
Lee Grady wrote, "What I love about Jon Potter is his honesty. Contrary to Thomas Dewar, Jon doesn’t care about his reputation. In his book Jon is willing to admit the dark secrets of his past—including a horrific childhood experience with sexual molestation. I don’t know many guys who are man enough to admit they were 'messed with' when they were boys. Most of us are afraid to bring such dirty secrets into the open; we think others might judge us or snicker behind our backs. Personally, I think Jon Potter is a stronger and better man for baring his soul."
In Bishop Doug Beacham's endorsement of Jonathan Potter's book he wrote, "Jonathan Potter has opened his life and heart for all to see how he has come to know the grace of God expressed through “sonship.” He draws insights from Scripture and connects them to the plight of modern western manhood providing a trustworthy bridge from a life of defeat to a life of hope and joy.
"This is one of those serious ‘must-reads’ for people seeking to be a more serious disciple of Jesus Christ!"

[Editor's Comment: I have known Jonathan Potter, at a distance, for many years. His godly parents, the Rev. Mr. Wesley and Peggie Flowers Potter, are very dear friends of our family. I have preached in Wesley's Church in Baltimore on several occasions when he was the pastor and superintendent of the Mid-Atlantic Conference, and once, I accepted an assignment at Wesley's request to go to Ukraine to preach in a crusade and plant a church when he was unable to fulfill that commitment.
The Potters have been our friends over a period of many years, and I hold them in high esteem. We have loved and prayed for their children and their spouses, and grandchildren. We want God's best for everyone.
I would like to add my endorsement of Jonathan Potter's book, and recommend that you consider purchasing it for yourself, a family member, or a friend. You will discover that Jonathan is an excellent writer, highly intelligent, honest, open and transparent as he shares his own personal story. His book is saturated with Scriptures in a meaningful and helpful way to help the reader gain insight and understanding.
This book may be just what that person in your life or circle of influence needs to be delivered from the oppression and entrapment of Satan, as he or she comes to understand more fully his/her condition, what it means to be a son or a daughter of God, and discovers the healing virtue of Jesus Christ to set her/him free.]
