Southwestern Christain University men's basketball team wins big at Homecoming Opener

Bethany, OK. - The Southwestern Christian University men's basketball team collected their first win of the season, posting a 98-78 victory over Ozark Christian College in front of a packed out Pickens-Springer Gymnasium on Friday evening, November 12, 2010.

With the Eagles nabbing a quick ten point lead at the beginning of the game, senior Greg Block swished in six of his eight shots from behind the arch with Josh Gamblin knocking down four of his five three-point attempts. The Eagles kept the Ambassadors at arm's length for the remainder of the first half, leading by 16 going into the break.

The bothersome Ambassadors (0-3) refused to be put away that early, however, and came back to cut the Eagle's lead to seven with 11 minutes remaining in the game.

The dominant SCU squad was able to pull away in the end, closing the game with a final score of 98-78.

Gamblin ended with a team high of 25 points and four assists while Block chipped in 20 points for the Eagles.

Senior Riemond Prince posted the first double-double of the season, tallying 22 points and 10 assists. Prince also posted nine rebounds against the Ambassadors.

The Eagles will travel to Wichita Falls, Texas, me on Wednesday, November 17th to take on Midwestern State. Game time is set for 7 p.m.

[Editor's Note: Would you believe that I was in Bethany, OK, last Friday night and drove over from my hotel about one mile west of the campus, and could not find a parking place anywhere. Now, that is a good problem to have, but I drove away quite disappointed that I could not see the game, and drove to Braums to eat a hamburger, fries and a diet coke. I ate alone.

I was told by Mark Arthur, the Eagles' head basketball coach and Athletic Director, that the stands were filled to capacity.

When I was president in the late 70s, my family and I attended every home game. We loved it. We are so very proud of the Eagles basketball team.
