Sheila Vavak Sellers to have knee (tibia plateau) surgery on Monday, April 25, 2011.
Air Force Chaplain, Major Randy Sellers informed me on Thursday, April 21, that his wife, Sheila, had accidentally fallen out of his truck while packing items she was taking to Oklahoma City for her daughter's garage sale. She fractured her tibia plateau.
Shelia is scheduled for surgery Monday morning, April 25, 2011, at Bass Integris Medical Center in Enid, OK. The orthopedic doctor said the break is one of the worst breaks he has seen in 30 years. She will not be able to put any weight on her leg for 6-8 weeks after surgery.
Many of you, my readers, are praying already for Sheila Sellers. I am pleased to announce that she has sent me a very specific prayer request that covers all the bases. I like people who are specific.
Here is Sheila's specific prayer request:
Hugh,
Thank you so much for praying for me and for sharing my need with your readers.
Several times during this past week I have felt the tangible results of prayers being spoken over me.
There is nothing like having a network of prayer warriors doing battle for us when we are struggling!
What a blessing you are to us!
Specific requests for the surgery and the next few weeks:
1. That the infection will stay far away from my knee and that the bone graft will be purified before it enters my knee.
2. That the crucial nerve running close to the knee will not be damaged
3. That the surgery will go better than expected and give God all of the Glory!!!
4. That Randy will be strengthened as he cares for me. He is so precious and has been my "Knight in Shining Armour"!
Give my love to Queen Melvine!
We love you very much and really treasure the ministry you are to us.
Sheila
I went on the Internet to find out more about this type of fracture. Here is what I found:
What is a tibial plateau fracture?
The tibial plateau is the upper surface of the tibia or shin bone. It is prone to becoming fractured in high velocity accidents such as those associated with skiing, horse riding and certain water sports.
Fractures of the tibial plateau are considered quite serious as this upper surface of the bone contains structures which are critical to the knees functioning. Hence fractures of the tibial plateau are often associated with injuries to the anterior cruciate ligament, collateral ligaments (MCl and/or LCL), menisci and articular cartilage. This damage, although repairable, highly disposes the knee joint to the early onset of osteoarthritis, particularly in younger patients.
Please join Melvine and me in prayer for Sheila Vavak Sellers. She is the daughter of Garry and Bea Vavak. We are believing God for a miracle of healing for Sheila.
