Retired Army Chaplain (Colonel) Freeman Mashburn turns 92, on Saturday, February 19, 2011

It is a wonderful thing to see a great man of God gracefully grow older. He continues to be gentle, gracious, pleasant, positive, and optimistic. He is a man of faith and full of the Holy Spirit. He is a great churchman.

Freeman Mashburn is the man we talking about. What a wonderful life! What a legacy! He is one of a kind. It has been said of him that he is the best public relations man this church has ever produced.

Freeman was born on February 19, 1919, in Rocky Mount, NC. His father was James Hubert Mashburn, and his mother was Essie Strickland Mashburn. His father was a pastor/preacher and superintendent of the Eastern Virginia Conference for 14 years.

There are three 9s in Freeman's birth date. 9 x 3=27. That is the number of books in the New Testament. However, there are 39 books in the Old Testament giving us a total of 66 books in the Bible.

God has fulfilled a promise that is given in the 10 Commandments in Freeman Mashburn's life. In fact, it is the fifth commandment. It is called the first Commandment with a Promise. "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you” (Exodus 20:12, NKJV).

Freeman Mashburn served as an Army chaplain for 27 years with honor and distinction, having achieved the rank of full colonel prior to his retirement. He has served as a pastor, conference superintendent, and director of the IPHC Extension Loan Fund during the administration of the late Bishop J. Floyd Williams. In addition, he served as the Director/Endorser for Chaplains Ministries IPHC for 5 years.
