Joshua Taylor Grigsby passed away around 1 a.m. Tuesday, October 5, 2010. Josh was the grandson of Shirley Spencer, former IPHC editor.

“Josh was a big, loving teddy bear–always wanted to give you a hug, had a beautiful beaming smile and the sweetest manner about him,” said the family.

Grigsby was a graduate of Mustang High School in Mustang, OK. He attended Redlands Community College in El Reno, where he studied agriculture. His career goal was to become an agriculture teacher.

In his spare time, he loved to hunt and fish. He also raised show hogs and won several awards with them. He was an active member of River of Life Church in Oklahoma City.

Around 1 o'clock., Tuesday morning, October 5, 2010, Grigsby and three friends were driving to get food after watching a movie. They were on a gravel road. The driver lost control after hitting a ditch, and the truck rolled. Grigsby was the only one who died.  He was a passenger, not the driver of the vehicle. The others were treated at the scene and released. No alcohol was involved in the incident.

He is survived by his parents, Jerry and Tanya Grigsby; his sister, Hannah Grigsby; and his grandparents, Shirley and Dewayne Spencer.

Shirley Spencer served the IPHC for over 30 years. During that time, she was the editor of the denominational magazine, IPHC Manual, and Sunday school curriculum. Spencer retired after the 26th General Conference in 2009.

"The IPHC family is deeply saddened by the news of this tragic accident," said Presiding Bishop Ronald W. Carpenter, Sr. "Josh was a vibrant young man who was greatly loved. He will be missed by his family and friends. Our love, sympathy, support, and prayers are extended to all of the family."

The family appreciates the IPHC family’s prayers and support during this difficult time.

The funeral will take place at 2 p. m. Friday, October 8, 2010, at River of Life church, 6901 NW 150th, Oklahoma City.

The family appreciates the IPHC family’s prayers and support during this difficult time.

Services will be at Mercer Adams Funeral Home in Bethany.

[Editor's note: When I heard the news earlier today (Tuesday), I was shocked and saddened. I called the home and spoke with a friend of the family. Shirley and Dewayne were not available to talk with me at the time. I know they will deeply appreciate your prayers and thoughts of condolence in this time of grief. I do not have authority to give you their telephone number, and I do not know their mailing address. I am confident that Jerry and Tanya Grigsby, his parents, and his sister, Hannah Grigsby, would appreciate you calling their names in your prayers.]
