I wanted to take a few moments on this national holiday to update you on the continuing efforts of DRUSA. I am so appreciative for the support many IPHC volunteers are providing during this turbulent disaster season. Before I report on Joplin, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Women's Ministries, Girl's Ministries, Awakening, Heartland Conference, Extension Loan Fund, and River of life Church for responding quickly to the tornado that hit Piedmont, Oklahoma on Tuesday, 24May. The team moved quickly to assist residents who lost their homes and to distribute personal care kits from WM. Again, thanks!
Joplin, MO
1. On Monday, 30 May, 15 volunteers arrived from the Tennessee Valley Conference. The team is led by Dave Caja, conference DRUSA coordinator and Bishop Manuel Pate. They will be in Joplin through NOON on Wednesday, 1 June.
2. Ten volunteers from Life Center Church In the North Carolina Conference arrived on Monday, 30 May. Pastor Keith O'Neal has been in Joplin since the tornado and is working with DRUSA and other organizations facilitating volunteer projects and assignments. Keith's church raised $3,500.00 and connected with the Dollar General in their area, who have donated a semi-tractor trailer of supplies. Dollar General is providing the truck and driver at their expense. I commend The Life Center for moving quickly in raising funds, commodities and sending volunteers.
3. Bishop Charles Womack reports that volunteers from the Harvest Conference are in Joplin distributing baby supplies donated by the conference churches.
4. Sam Jones from Kinston, NC, and Ministry of Mercy reports that the 53 foot refrigerated truck is half loaded with meat products for Joplin. He hopes to complete the load this week through other contributors and get the truck to Joplin.
I have others who are calling and wanting to get involved. I will keep you posted on all future developments. Blessings!
