President James D. Leggett shares from Holmes Bible College

Did you enjoy the Fireside Chat with Bishop James D. Leggett, former General Superintendent of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church in a recent Hugh's News? Many have told me it was just great and so welcomed.

But there is more. Here is what I have copied from the Holmes Bible College Newsletter:

A Word From The President of Holmes Bible College

THE SHIP IS TURNING

Enrollment is up, but we need more students to register

Dr. Beacham often referred to Holmes as the "Old Ship." The "Old Ship" is beginning to turn, slowly, too slowly, but turning. There is encouragement in the enrollment for the Spring semester. Fifteen new students enrolled for the Spring 2010 semester. This is almost as many students as enrolled in the Fall 2009 semester. We pray that this is harbinger of future increases in the student body. It would be great to have an enrollment of 25 to 30 freshmen in the coming fall school year. We also had a good retention ratio. We had two or three students to complete their work in the fall semester, and they will be graduating in May. Let us join together in faith and prayer for a continuing increase of students.

Sponsors are needed to make it possible for International Students to attend Holmes

We had three international students who were accepted but they must have a sponsor before they can get into the country. All three would have made a great addition to the student body. Holiness Buselengete from Nairobi, Kenya placed fourth in the nation in vocal solo competition. She has been trying to get to Holmes for the last year. Laura Rojas from Mexico, now living in Canada, was hoping to be here for the Spring semester, but the authorities decided that her sponsor could not meet the requirements. Lucas Shekibula from Tanzania simply could not complete his paperwork on time.

Operational Expenses need to be raised monthly

The operational income from December was probably the best for any one month in a long time. It was still not enough for monthly expenses, but it came close. Again, it appears the ship is turning, and we need to pray and believe our Lord for an ever-increasing income to meet the expenses of the college.

There is an excellent spirit on the campus as seen in the chapel services on Monday and Wednesday. The students are being exposed to some of the finest preaching and the Lord is graciously blessing. Recently, Bob Ely and Ernest Barr preached great messages.

Brooks-King Duplex Nears Completion

It is so exciting to see the Brooks-King Mission House going up.  John Gibson and Larry Ward came with a crew from North Carolina last week to frame the building.  They did a fantastic job. The building is now closed in. The plumbing has been installed as well as the heating and air conditioning.

The faculty and students have been watching with excitement and anticipation.  Some of the girls are asking the builders, "When will we be able to move in?"  I heard one of our international students say, "I will be living there by the summer."

The funds for the Missions Duplex have been provided by Moses King of North Carolina. So far the work has mostly been done by some alumni of Holmes. Carl Sturkie is the contractor; Bob Russo is in charge of the masonry; John Gibson and Larry Ward did the framing; Sherrill Green and Steve Cooper from the Clinton First Pentecostal Holiness Church helped Carl in putting in the floor joist and Herman Litchfield installed the heating and air.

It is so encouraging to see the alumni so involved in rebuilding the college they love so dearly. It certainly speaks well for the future of Holmes.

[Editor's Note: I have been a college president and I know the feeling I experienced when funds were needed to meet the payroll for the professors and staff, and to pay the gas, light and water bills. God is certainly our Source, but  He uses people like you and me to give as He may prompt us to contribute. And He may be speaking to you right now as you read this article about Holmes Bible College.

President James D. Leggett needs your encouragement by sending contributions to help with operating expenses to pay the monthly bills, and he needs people to agree to be sponsors to help international students come to the USA and to Holmes Bible College. You will be investing in the brightest and best from these foreign countries. What an investment to make in the lives of young people.
