Peggy Herring Fuquay, 74, wife of Tommy Fuquay went to heaven, May 6, 2011

GREENSBORO, NC--Peggy Herring Fuquay, 74, of Pine Lake Drive slipped peacefully from this life into the next with her family at her side and standing in that sacred space at Beacon Place on May 6, 2011.

A Resurrection Celebration service will be held at Holly's Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church, Hwy 49 North of Ramseur, NC on Monday, May 9, 2011, at 11 a.m. Bishop Tommy McGhee, Rev. B. D. Shelton, Rev. J. C. Miles, Rev. Ron Carpenter and Rev. Cecil Coates will officiate. Graveside rites will take place at 4 p. m. on Monday in Person Memorial Park in Roxboro, NC.

Born in Person County, Peggy was the only child of the late Robert E. Herring and Pearl Tatum Herring, and the granddaughter of George Tatum and Annie Wrenn Tatum. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Faith Fuquay.

Walking faithfully in marriage with her husband, the Rev. Mr. Tommy Dail Fuquay, for nearly 58 years, Peggy served alongside her husband in full-time ministry for 52 years.

The Fuquays served churches in Roxboro, Mt. Pleasant, Asheboro, Raleigh, Stanley, Kernersville and Holly's Chapel. She was a member of the Asheboro Pentecostal Holiness Church. With her quiet graciousness and gentle demeanor, she reflected the unconditional love of Christ and extended the good news of the gospel in tangible ways, even in the midst of a long eleven year battle with cancer. An avid reader, she ministered to others through the gift of books. Peggy was a faithful wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, beloved aunt, gracious sister and treasured friend, not only to her immediate family but to countless people along her life's journey. Even in death her life was a witness to the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Mr. Tommy Dail Fuquay, of the home. Two sons, Jonathan Robert Fuquay and wife, Karen T. Fuquay of Lewisville, NC; Kenneth Dail Fuquay of Mt. Holly, NC; one grandson, Andrew Fuquay of Lewisville, NC; and first cousin and "sister" Frances Jones of South Boston, VA.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Beacon Place at Hospice & Palliative Care of Greensboro 2502 Summit Avenue Greensboro, NC.

[Editor's Comment: I am grateful to Hugh and Lois Hoyle for this news. They always come through. It is because of people like them who feed the news to me, that I can provide you with fast-breaking news.

It was my privilege to have known Mrs. Peggy Fuquay and her husband, Tommy Fuquay. He was a great preacher, evangelist, pastor, conference superintendent. He served as the superintendent of the Western North Carolina Conference (now called Cornerstone Conference). He was a member of the General Executive Board and the General Board of Administration. I know that my father-in-law and mother-in-law, Russell H. and Frances Stewart of Draper, loved him and always enjoyed the revivals he conducted in their church. Mr. Stewart loved good preaching and if a man could preach, and Tommy Fuquay could, he would tell me about him.

Let us remember Brother Tommy Fuquay and his family in our prayers. May the Holy Spirit grant them comfort. We know Peggy is in heaven to be with the Lord forever.

God's Word says, "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on." "Yes," says the Spirit, "they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them."
Revelation 14:13. (NIV).]
