The other day I received a lovely card with a hand-written note, as well as a check for a contribution to support Hugh's News. Here is what she wrote:
"Dear Hugh,
"I am sending this enclosed check for Hugh's News in memory of my late husband (name omitted to protect her identity) who died August 12, 2010. He was a fine Christian man, who happily agreed that we should send this donation.
"I trust this will lighten your financial load a bit. I, like many, many others, appreciate your "newsy" endeavors and say: 'Keep up the good work'--for your labors are not in vain!
"In Christian love,"

I can tell you I was deeply moved by what this dear lady, a widow, wrote, and grateful for her willingness to give at this time--the day before Melvine and I would celebrate our 51st Wedding Anniversary.
Today, more than 5,000 readers are enjoying Hugh's News. However, very few of my readers have ever contributed to this ministry. Although I am sure those who read my newsletter are blessed, but somehow just never get around to making a contribution for the service that is rendered accurately, consistently, and faithfully. I understand that we are all busy, and somehow it slips our minds. We are human. Sometimes a little reminder can be useful. I have noted that whenever I get a letter from the IRS, I will open it immediately. Somehow the name IRS gets my attention. How about you?
Hugh's News is dependent upon your financial support to keep us up-to-date with paying our bills.
We are now in the month of August, most vacations have been taken, many children are back in schools, and most of us are getting back into the groove of daily living. With all that behind us, now is the time to consider what God would have you give to support this electronic ministry. You are getting news here that you will not find any other place with such speed and accuracy in reporting. It takes time, effort, and money to make it all happen at a moment's notice.
God has been faithful and continues to be faithful to us for over 14 years of the existence of this electronic ministry. He has touched many of your hearts and your pocketbooks to contribute to this ministry. And I am grateful. It is with the voice of thanksgiving that I proclaim God's favor and goodness to Hugh's News through the generous gifts from some of you.
I must confess that I need your prayers as I write and produce this electronic newsletter. God has brought us to this good hour to serve you, your family, and the ministries of the IPHC (International Pentecostal Holiness Church) and the body of Christ worldwide.
First of all, I need your continued prayer for strength, a clear mind, and a pure heart. It is my prayer that I will always present a positive message that lifts up Jesus Christ, the Savior of the World. Jesus came to save sinners, and to give them eternal life. Therefore, evangelism is a top priority for me, because it is the heartbeat of Jesus.
Secondly, I need your financial support. It costs more today to produce this newsletter than when I first started this news agency 14 years ago. There are monthly costs for a number of expenses that are required to make this newsletter available to you.
