[Editor's Comment: It has been my privilege to have known the King family all of my life. We are saddened by the death of Evelyn Virginia King. She is the last of three King sisters to have died: Easter Lily King, Mary Ann King, and now Evelyn Virginia King has departed this life, and all three kept their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. Only Joseph Hilliary King is alive. We hold this family in high esteem and ascribe honor, love, integrity, and respect to them.

Joseph Hilliary King, Sr. was the Bishop of the Pentecostal Holiness Church, and was elected to serve our church as the General Superintendent. He provided great leadership in the early formation of the Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was modest and manful; there was confidence and courage in his bearing as a general official. In judgment he was sober and serious, unafraid of decisions, calm and steady by nature, and committed to a life of holiness and the Spirit-empowered life. He was a servant leader.

For many years there was a series of Biblical Theological Lectures known as the King Memorial Lectures named in honor of Bishop J. H. King, and held each year on the campus of Emmanuel College.

I am grateful to the funeral director of Pruitt Funeral Home for sending me the obituary as he had promised.

Let us remember Joseph H King, Jr. in our prayers. We thank God for his life and his ministry as a teacher at Emmanuel College in English and Speech.]
