Psalm 84:10-12
10 Better is one day in your courts
than a thousand elsewhere;
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
than dwell in the tents of the wicked.
11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield;
the LORD bestows favor and honor;
no good thing does he withhold
from those whose walk is blameless.
12 O LORD Almighty,
blessed is the man who trusts in you.
NIV
[Editor's comment: This Psalm was my father's favorite. I have head him quote it many times. He loved to read and study the Bible. I could read from the Bible in any book, chapter and verse, and he could tell me what book it was in. He was an amazing man.
He told me these words when I was leaving home to go into the United States Marine Corps: "Hugh, any thing that is not connected in someway with eternity is worth your time." Those words struck a vital chord in my heart and mind, and I have never forgotten his fatherly counsel. They served me well during my three years in the Marine Corps. I am grateful for the father God gave me.
