Thanks For the article. As a musician I grew up playing most of those great red book and black book hymns. I loved them then and I love them now. They are a part of the Pentecostal DNA.
I note that when we sing those old hymns we really sing them!! The congregation immediately lights up as they all sing the words they are so familiar with. It's a beautiful thing to witness. So many do not even participate when singing "some" new songs. But having said that I think we miss the theology taught in those songs for example like "At Calvary." "Oh the love that drew salvations plan, oh the grace that brought it down to man, oh the mighty gulf that God did span at Calvary!!" I'm for singing them all!! They may be oldies but they are goodies!!
