When I was in the seventh grade, way back in 1977, my family and I moved back to Alabama. Dad became the pastor of his home church after being an active Air Force chaplain and the president of Southwestern Christian University.
My sister and I especially loved being in Alabama because we had so much fun a youth camp and camp meeting at River Springs, in south Alabama. Everyone from the conference was so friendly and there was also such a great spirit there.
I could mention so many people as I mentally go down Memory Lane, but one of the main families that I remember so fondly, is the Goodman family. Pastor Hal, now in heaven, and his wife Nelle, pastored in Anniston, Alabama at the time. They had three children when we first moved there: Ronnie, Rhetta, and Tim, and later Julie was born.
Tim is just a year older than me, so we always went to both camp and camp meeting together. Rhetta and Ronnie were older, but they always contributed greatly to the music during camp meeting. Rhetta sings and plays the piano beautifully, and I remember Ronnie playing the guitar and singing.
Ronnie was several years older than me, but we were still good friends. Everyone was your friend at River Springs! Of course we also got to know Ronnie’s wife Kay. I have such great memories indeed!
I was shocked to see on Facebook this week that Ronnie had passed away. However, I support our IPHC missionaries Al and Coli Argo. They minister in the Philippines. Al has a conference call once a month and Rhetta has often requested prayer for Ronnie, but I didn’t realize that he had suffered a stroke. Of course, I know that Ronnie is in heaven, which is comforting, but let’s still pray for his family.
Let me share what Rhetta sent me regarding Ronnie’s upcoming funeral service.
Funeral arrangements for Ron Goodman will be Friday, January 12th, at Eastern Gate Memorial in Pensacola, Florida. Visitation for family will be from 1:00-2:00, friends 2:00-3:00, and the service at 3:00 pm. All times Central. Burial to follow at Eastern Gate Memorial Gardens.
