Hugh's News is happy to announce that Dr. David Hopkins, former president of Emmanuel College will be speaking today to honor the life and legacy of Dr. C. Y.. Melton. Several times Dr. C. Y. Melton asked Dr. David Hopkins to speak at his memorial service. And so it will be today at 11 o'clock.
David and Claudia drove up from Moultrie, GA, yesterday to be with us today. I can tell you that you will thrill to hear first hand this amazing eulogy or in memoriam to one of the greatest men in our denomination. Dr. Melton was a brilliant man, a man who thought things through, a man with wisdom and wit, and a compassionate and caring man who loved the Bible and loved truth. He loved people. He was one of the most generous men you will ever meet. He made everyone feel very special when in his presence. He always had a kind word to speak.
All I can tell you, my dear readers is this: I hope one day when I grow up I will be able to write and speak like Dr. David Hopkins. He is the best of the best.
A memorial service will be held at the Franklin Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church, Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 11 a, m.
Visitation will be at 10 am until the service time.
[Editor's Comment: I am grateful to Pastor Harrison Lampley for his exceptional communication skills in keeping me informed about the death and now memorial service for Dr. C. Y. Melton.
I am grateful to all of you who have made comments to this great and noble man, a man of faith and filled with the Holy Spirit and with wisdom. He was mighty in word and deed. He was a personal friend of mine, and a mentor when I became president of Southwestern College in Oklahoma City. He often spoke a word of encouragement when I needed it most.]
