Dr. C. Y. Melton was responsible for my coming to Emmanuel College some thirty-five and a-half years ago. I was reluctant at first but he persisted that I consider how much greater impact I might make at the School of Christian Ministries as opposed to pastoring for the rest of my life. He was always a good mentor and gracious encourager.
I served as dean of the SCM for ten years, then after Dr. Melton retired, I served ten more years as Academic Dean with Dr. David Hopkins. The last five years prior to my retirement as full time administrator I served Dr. Hopkins as Executive Vice-President.
Shortly after I retired, I was called to Holmes Bible College as interim president, and I am now completing eight years of service there in the positon of Vice-President for Academic Development with Dr. James Leggett.
Dr. Melton was my Sunday school teacher for many years at the Franklin Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church. He constantly encouraged me with his friendship and helpful advice. I was asked to teach his class when he moved to West Virginia. Both the class and I missed Dr. Melton immensely. May God grant peace and wholeness in fulfillment of His promise to those who serve faithfully.
