Franklin Springs, GA--The Emmanuel College Women's Basketball Team started off their season with a win over Carver College. The 62-41 victory saw two top scorers for the Lions in Trombley and Scarbrough. Trombley scoring 14 points and Scarbrough scoring 10 points.
Avery Scarbrough scored the first points of the game with a jump shot. After a couple more shots made the ladies were up 6-0. Right as Carver College started to gain on the Lions, Mikayla Trombley came through with a 3-point jump shot to bring the score up to 13-6, which would then end the first quarter.
Starting out the second quarter, Jenesai Mohammed nailed a 3-point jump shot within the first minute of the game bringing the score to 16-9. The ladies soon led Carver 23-9, but then lost momentum as Carver began to gain on them again. Due to a few free throws Carver was now trailing by 5 points making the score 25-20. With one minute left in the second quarter, Mikayla Trombley shows out with yet another 3-point jump shot to end the quarter with the score now 28-20.
The Lady Lions were not done playing when they came out to start the second half. Timia Reynolds was able to break through and score the first point in the second half of the game bringing the score to 30-20. Genesis Jones made her first 3-point jump shot of the night bringing the score to 41-24. The ladies soon soared over Carver by twenty points when Mikayla Trombley scored her 6th shot tonight bringing the score to 46-26. The ladies ended the third quarter still leading over Carver by twenty.
The Lady Lions led the fourth quarter with good defense. Sydney Nash brought in the first points of the last quarter which led the ladies to gain on Carver with a 21-point lead. The ladies continued to play good defense and the game ended with Jewel Montisano making the final shot of the game bringing the game to a close with a score of 62-41.
The Lady Lions are now starting their season with a 1-0 record. The Lady Lions will play against Georgia College at Dahlonega, GA on Friday Nov. 18th for the North Georgia Tournament.
