What do Texas A&M University, James Madison University, and Emmanuel College have in common? At this year’s USA Archery Collegiate Nationals, these three institutions outlasted 75 other programs to finish on the Overall Team Podium.
In its fifth year as a program, the Emmanuel College Archery program has finished each season ranked inside the top 10 nationally, and this year’s Team Silver finish is something Head Coach Rodney Estrada takes pride in.
“It’s a product of good recruiting and training,” Rodney said. “The week before we went to nationals, every day we shot and drilled everything that could have given us points so that when we got to nationals we’d be competitive.”
Emmanuel finished the Collegiate Championships with five All-Americans and eight individual podium finishes including bronze finishes in Bowhunter Women, Recurve Women, and Mixed Team Recurve.
What’s next for the Archery program?
“We’ve got our sights set on first,” Rodney said. “It’s going to be a young team next year as several seniors will be leaving next year so I have to recruit a whole freshman class.”
How has the Team Silver finish helped in recruiting?
“I’ve had several texts, phone calls, and emails from people wanting me to do camps or requesting campus visits,” Rodney said. “The Team Silver finish has meant a lot to the recruiting process for us. It brought us recognition in the Archery community.”
Congratulations to EC’s USA Archery Collegiate All-Americans!
