Dear Hugh,
I first heard of you and Melvine many years ago when some proud parents spoke so glowing of their son-in-law. Betty Baxter and I conducted many revival services over the years at Melvine's home church (Draper Pentecostal Holiness Church) in Eden, North Carolina.
It's amazing the path that God has led you on, the people whom you've met and the experiences you've had and you are using all of that to bless, encourage, inform, and instruct all of us.
What a gift you and Melvine are to the body of Christ and to the IPHC in particular.
Thank you for your burden, compassion, and love that spills out all over your newsletters.
May God bless you both with good health for many years to come.
Sincerely,
Faye Penland
[Editor's comment: Faye Penland's letter came on Monday, April 24, at just the right time to lift my spirits and to encourage me to keep on keeping on. Knowing that what God enables me to do in publishing Hugh's News is touching lives and is meaningful to my readers is so encouraging to me.
Melvine and I see Faye Penland when we attend functions of the Upper South Carolina Conference now called Spirit Life Ministries. It has been a joy to meet her because of the love and deep appreciation that Melvine's parents, Russell and Frances Shropshire Stewart, had for her and Betty Baxter. They looked forward to their revival services. And now, we enjoy this dear lady who has given so much in evangelistic ministries of our church.
Whenever Betty Baxter and Faye Penland showed up for revival, God was always present. You didn't have to ask anyone about it. When God is present everybody knows it. There is excitement, enlightenment, and empowerment. God still acts today through yielded vessels of men and women who have submitted their lives to Christ and His Kingdom. Revivals still serve a purpose in the church today. May God give to all of our church a revival that begins in the hearts of God's people.
In addition, Faye Penland was very generous in her contribution to Hugh's News, Inc. I want to thank Faye for her financial support for Hugh's News, Inc.
