Mrs. Maxine Stanley, 97, of Mayodan, NC is at the point of death

News about Mrs. Maxine Stanley, 97, who resides in Mayodan, NC, was sent to Hugh's News on Monday by Hugh Hoyle. He reported that Mrs. Stanley was found unconscious in her home. She was taken to the hospital. Tests revealed that she had a massive stroke. However, she rallied enough to open her eyes, tried to speak, and seemed to recognize everyone. She has hung in there all week.

In an e-mail from Bill Baulding, a relative, this evening he wrote, "Last evening as Nadine, her daughter, was leaving the hospital room she noticed that Maxine was looking around the room with a radiant smile on her face. She called to her mother and asked, "What are you seeing?" Maxine was able to get out what sounded to her "angels." Shortly afterwards as Nadine was leaning over close to her mother she heard her say, 'going home.'"

Bill Baulding concluded his e-mail by writing, "The doctor had said earlier that she was in a deep comma and not responding; but she did one more time. She then closed her eyes, and slipped back into a deep comma. That is the latest we have heard today (Saturday, November 6, 2010).

In an e-mail from Doyle Marley on Saturday he had this news to report: "Maxine Stanley's vital organs are slowly shutting down and the doctors have told the family that it is 'just a matter of time.' At this point they are simply trying to keep her comfortable."

[Editor's Note: I have known Mrs. Maxine Stanley for about 50 years. She is a great Christian lady in the Cornerstone Conference. She is the widow of the late Rev. Mr. Paul Stanley. She is an aunt to Doyle Marley and to Charles Stanley, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA.

Mrs. Stanley has been a faithful and loyal member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church. You will always see her at every conference event, Harvest Train in Falcon, NC, and she was present in 2009 at the General Conference in Greensboro. Should she live for two more months, which seems doubtful, she would be 98 years old.

She was a delightful person, full of enthusiasm and joy. She always dressed sharply, and her hair was stylish and beautiful. I for one will greatly miss her. I took the above photo of Maxine Stanley in 2009, at Harvest Train at the Culbreth Memorial Auditorium in Falcon, NC.]
