In a letter to Bishop Wesley and Janice Russ, Superintendent of the Mid-Atlantic Conference:
Hello Janice and Wesley: I need to update folks on Mother.
To make the story short, about 10 days ago Helen Valentine, formerly of Baltimore, MD, and now residing in Fort Smith, AK, had some kind of infection which the nursing home was treating with antibiotics, but she wasn't responding.
They sent her to the Emergency Room at a hospital where she was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection. They treated her for it and sent her back to the nursing home. Since then she has just failed more and more. On this past Tuesday she no longer would eat or drink.
She wanted to be left alone to sleep. They asked me if I wanted her fed intravenously, and I said "No." I asked them to just keep her comfortable and pain-free.
They are now going to put her on hospice care.
I will keep you posted,
AL VAL
[Editor's Note: I remember the Valentines as I was growing up in the Pentecostal Holiness Church. HH or "Val" was a gifted musician and played the piano. He and Helen used to sing together and they would touch the hearts of people with their anointed singing. Brother Valentine was the pastor of the Baltimore Pentecostal Holiness Church for many years. Let us offer prayers for Helen as she nears the end of her earthly life. She is 97 years old.]
