[Editor's condolence to Brother David Sparks and his fine family. I am sorry that I did not know about the death of Carrie until early Wednesday morning, June 23, 2010. I am grateful to Hugh and Lois Hoyle for the obituary they sent via e-mail.

David, you have been a special friend to me for almost a decade. I am grateful for your many telephone calls, letters, e-mails, and news about Carrie and your ministry at Flat Rock Pentecostal Holiness Church. I am grateful for the time I brought Chaplain (Captain) Stanton Trotter, US Army to speak at your homecoming. In addition, I was pleased to have my son, Greg Morgan, come with us for the weekend. The accommodations you provided were first class. We will never forget the good people who attended the church that Sunday, and for the delicious Sunday dinner in the fellowship hall.

One of your many gifts, David, is that of encouragement. You have been a source of encouragement for me many times over. Thank you for sharing news for my newsletter from time to time, and your work as an institutional chaplain. Your ministry far exceeds the local church in Mount Airy, and God is using you to bless countless hundreds of people throughout North Carolina and other states.

When I think of the thousands of miles you have traveled to visit your dear wife, I think of your love for Carrie, your commitment, and loyalty in sickness and in health. At the same time, you faithfully carried out your obligations as pastor of Flat Rock P. H. Church. You have been a great example of what every husband should be. It is because of your love for your wife, that your children love Carrie and you.

We know that only God can bring you comfort in the presence of death. Physical death is not the end for Carrie. She is alive in heaven, and that is a fact as well as a promise for all who place their trust in Jesus Christ. He is the resurrection and the life.

It is my prayer that the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort may grant that comfort and peace to your heart and mind.
