Mr. Eorls Ross Lewellyn, 90, of High Point, NC, promoted to heaven Tuesday, July 12, 2011

Mr. Eorls Ross “E.R.” Lewellyn, 90, of High Point, NC, left his earthly home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, July 12, 2011, following a short illness.

Born March 21, 1921, in Stokes County, he was the son of the late Sam and Evangeline Voss Lewellyn. He was a great man treasured by his family, neighbors and friends. His humor and loving charm will be remembered. He enjoyed planting a large vegetable garden which he shared with all, doing all his own yard work and chopping wood for his fireplace. He challenged himself mentally with daily crossword puzzles. He was an inspiration to all he encountered.

He was an integral member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church in High Point for over 50 years, and was involved with the High Point Gideons.

A veteran of the US Army, he served in Europe during World War II and was a POW in Germany. He owned and operated the former U Wash It Laundry Service that was located on East Green in High Point. On June 6, 1942, he married the former Ruth Parrom, who preceded him in death on November 28, 2002. He was also preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.

Survivors include three children, Darius Lewellyn and wife, Patricia, of Calabash, NC, Sharon Crowgey and husband, Jack, of Chesapeake, VA, and Don Lewellyn and wife, Sharon, of Meadows of Dan, VA; five grandchildren, Joshua Crowgey, Jason Crowgey and wife, Renee, Bryant Lewellyn and wife, Casey, Dylan Lewellyn, and Mackenzie Lewellyn; his twin brother, Rev. Truce V. Lewellyn, of San Antonio, VA; and a sister-in-law, Doris W. Lewellyn, of Walnut Cove, NC.

Funeral will be 2 p. m. Saturday, July 16, 2011, at the First Pentecostal Holiness Church, on Kenilworth Drive in High Point, NC, officiated by Pastors Grover and Judy Jarrell and Pastor Elvio Canavesio.

Interment will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery officiated by Rev. Marvin Goodnight. The family will receive friends Friday night, July 15, from 6 until 8 p. m. at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.
