Missionary Philip T. List, Sr. had surgery at Wake Medical Center on Tuesday, November 29, 2011, to repair his bladder and colon issues. After surgery he bled internally all day after the surgery.
On Wednesday while Gailya, Philip's wife, and David, their son, were taking a break down the hall Philip’s condition worsened to "Code Blue"--the nurses were giving him blood and his heart started racing and he had to be shocked twice. He is now resting in ICU.
Now on Thursday Philip has a little more color in his face and is able to talk to Gailya and David. The doctors are working on locating the blood issue and chest pain Philip is having at present. He is still in serious condition, but he is improving.
As his son David put it: When the Bible says, "Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might," we know the victory is the Lord's. I long to see this man devoted to God's service rise and continue his work. Faith and hope abound.
[Editor's Comment: I am grateful to Sue Williams, a sister-in-law to Gailya, Sylvia, and Ruthe, for this information about Philip List. Will you join me in prayer with thousands of other Christians in believing prayer for Philip List's complete and full healing.
I have known Philip and Gailya Williams List since our days at Holmes Bible College. Philip and I used to commute from Holmes to Furman University. I have known Gailya since our year at Emmanuel College, and later in Washington, DC, when I was a young Marine at Quantico, VA. Philip was a man of prayer and faith.
I remember one time when Philip and Gailya had no groceries at their apartment. They never told anyone, but asked God in prayer to provide for them. When Philip left classes at Furman someone had filled the back seat of his car with groceries. He thought that I had done that. But the truth is that I did not do it. And, I knew nothing about their need, nor did I have the money to purchase any groceries, or for that matter, wouldn't have known what to buy.
What an awesome God we serve. Apparently God moved upon someone to purchase the groceries for Philip and Gailya. I remember praising God with them for his provision of food.
It was a special blessing for me to meet Philip's father and mother. His Dad was a great Shakespearean actor. He helped me with a class I had in Speech. He did a monologue of Charles Dickens' Ebenezer Scrooge. He went over well, and I got an A in the course. I needed all the help I could get.
About two weeks ago Philip sent me an e-mail thanking me for my ministry with Hugh's News by keeping them as missionaries informed about the news of the IPHC]
