The Scriptural Statement of Purpose for Hugh's News

Daniel 12:3

And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.
KJV

This Scripture text has become the Scripture Mission Text for Hugh's News.

Here is my story about why I chose this verse to express my call and mission in life:

When I shared with my mother, Julia Payne Morgan, that God had called me to preach, she told me the story about God speaking to her about me during her pregnancy with me in her womb. I was nineteen years old when I shared that calling from God.

I have an older sister, Mary Evelyn, who was a beautiful little girl. My mother was admiring her one day and thinking about what she would become. Then, the Lord spoke to her agreeing that Mary Evelyn was beautiful, intelligent, and talented, but He went on to say, "But the boy you will give birth to will be my star and will win many to righteousness and shine as the stars of the heavens.

That was the first time she had ever told me about her visitation from the Lord Jesus Christ. She said, "Hugh Holmes, I wanted God to call you, and not me. That is why I never told you until today."

I needed that confirmation of my calling and over the years God would have many others confirm that calling in my life. I needed repeated words of confirmation.

When I was six years old, I invited Jesus to come into my heart as my Savior and Lord on the last day of a Vacation Bible school. I knew that God had forgiven me of my sins, and written my name in the Lamb’s Book of Life. I had the witness of the Holy Spirit within my being that God had given me new life in Jesus. I immediately became an evangelist, and went from home to home in my neighborhood, telling parents and children about my experience. And I invited them to do the same if they had not received Jesus Christ.

The Apostle Peter wrote these following words about God's desire for no one to be lost or perish
:

2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
KJV

God is using Hugh's News as one of many instruments in these last days to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

In Mark's Gospel he records these words of Jesus:

Mark 16:15-20

15 And He said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

18.They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, He was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.

20 And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
KJV

There is only way to God and heaven, and it is through the Cross of Jesus. The Gospel can be summed up like this:

1 Corinthians 15:3-4
Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.
KJV

And after His resurrection and appearing to His disciples for 40 days with infallible proofs that He was alive . . .

Mark 16:19
He was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.

The Apostle Paul gives us the way to be saved, or to be given eternal life:

Rom 10:9-11

That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.  As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in Him will never be put to shame."
NIV

The prophet Isaiah wrote:

Isaiah 55:6-7

Seek the Lord while you can find Him. Call upon Him now while He is near. Let men cast off their wicked deeds; let them banish from their minds the very thought of doing wrong! Let them turn to the Lord that he may have mercy upon them, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon! (TLB).

Let me encourage you to invite Jesus into your heart and life today. Will you do it? If you will, God's Word says that you will be saved.

Brian Williams must be commended for all those years of faithful service. I really appreciate what J.P.Morgan expressed in his will. There assuredly was a divine connection between his faith and the success of his business ventures. May your strength, health, and memory continue to be blessed.

Congratulations on great progress and your up-coming 50th anniversary.

I appreciated so much the note from Lynda Shirlen and your comments about the Robert Robinson family. I was among those young people just out of Emmanuel College who went to DC to work and continue my education, and it was Roberta and the whole
Robinson family who also welcomed me into their home and blessed me with their friendship. It meant a lot to me. (I was in DC until 1957 when I returned to SC to head up the nursing program at Lander College (now university) in Greenwood, S.C. Much has taken place since then - like 10 years in Hong Kong, marriage to a good looking Indian man and the many happenings during our thirty years of marriage. God is indeed good!

Dr. Morgan, great job with new format. Thanks for your bold stand on the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy. We all must take a stand for TRUTH and let that position be know to all. Silence is not an option!

May I suggest you consider enlarging the type and use black type. As I get a bit more "mature" my eyes a playing tricks on me, don't you see.

Press on as you rest in His mighty power.........your friend, Wesley

Wonderful format, Hugh, and it is great to read your devotion, read the "funnies" and keep up with what's going on. I will be eternally grateful to you for making your reading audiance aware of Glenn's illness when he was at Emory having his stem cell transplant. As a result, so many prayers were prayed and so many letters came with words of encouragement. You're doing a great work. Keep it up. Betty Jo Bailey
