Let us finish the project of giving for Psalm 91 Prayer Bandannas

When I get discouraged I like to go to the Book of Ezra. It is a remarkable story about how God intervened when the enemies of the Israelis frustrated and tried to stop the rebuilding of the Temple. God used a heathen king, King Darius II, to issue a decree to defend, protect, and pay for the expenses for that worthy project--the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem. Only God could do that. Ezra reported that"the gracious hand of God was upon them" (Ezra 8:18, NIV).

We are too near the desired goal for our fund-raising to stop. We will not quit or throw in the towel.

The brightest and best of our American young men and women are now engaged in war in Afghanistan. The Air Force has sent one of our best chaplains to go there. He is Chaplain, Major (Select) Randy Sellers. He is our first Native American Indian to take the oath of office to serve our country and our church in the military chaplaincy. He is an ordained minister of the Heartland Conference where Bishop Frank Tunstall is the conference superintendent.

As the director and endorser for Chaplains Ministries, IPHC, it is my responsibility to provide support for our chaplains and their troops. I have taken on this project of raising $1,997.50 to purchase 250 Psalm 91 Prayer Bandannas for Chaplain Sellers to give to the soldiers, sailors, marines, airmen, and guardsmen.

Chaplain Randy Sellers is in Bagram, Afghanistan. He arrived there on Monday, July 5, 2010. He is scheduled to be there for six months. He is there ministering to the wounded and dying. He is getting very little sleep because the need is so great to bring the presence and peace of God to those he serves. The cross on his uniform is a visible reminder of the Holy unseen God Who loves these warriors. His sleeping quarters are only 25 yards from the hospital, so he is close to his work and ministry.

We are so close now to raising the money we need for the bandannas for our troops in Afghanistan. We need approximately $672.50 to complete our goal. I will not order the bandannas until I have all the money in hand. We are too near the goal line to quit.

I am asking my readers of Hugh's News to join in what I call a Prayer Shield for Chaplain Sellers and his troops. There is power in corporate prayer and we can make a Prayer Shield from coast to coast, and around the world. We want to pray for Randy's health, his mission to minister to soldiers, sailors, airmen, and guardsmen. Of course, we desire that God will protect him and his men and women in the area where he is serving, as well as in all of Afghanistan. In our prayers, we want to remember Randy's wife, Sheila, and their children.

Secondly, I am asking that your consider participating in giving so I can provide 250 Psalm 91 Prayer Bandannas for Chaplain Sellers to give out. When he gives a bandanna to a soldier, you will be there presenting that bandanna. One of my readers called and told me she was sending $100. One of our IPHC reserve chaplains, Chaplain, Captain Sarah Tarpley gave $100 out of her need. One of my readers sent $20 this week via credit card.

The bandannas cost $7.99 a piece. That is $1,997.50 for 250 bandannas. We only need $672.50 to reach our goal. If you would like to help purchase these bandannas for Randy to give to those to whom he ministers, you may make out your check or money order to Hugh's News, Inc. Then, you can mail it to:

I have given the first contribution to this project. My philosophy on giving is that I will never ask you to give unless I have given first. I believe that leadership always gives first. That principle is throughout the entire Bible. Jesus said that "It is more blessed to give than to receive." I believe that. On my tombstone I want these words engraved, "Hugh Morgan was a giver not a taker."

This is one specific way you can support our troops in Afghanistan. These bandannas can be carried with the soldier, airman, marine, or sailor wherever they go as a reminder of God's love, presence, protection, provision, and promises.

Thank you for your contribution. I am confident and hopeful that you will respond and meet this need. I would like to finish this project very soon. I need your help now.

You may write me by sending your e-mail to Hugh@hughsnews.com.
