I have finished reading Chaplain Barry Black's new book, The Blessing of Adversity. It is a book everyone who wants to understand how God can take the adversities of your life and turn them into blessings. Let me quote a few paragraphs that might encourage you.
"During my twenty-seven-year military career, I spent more time than I should have worrying about promotions. On most work-days something would happen that would prompt me to ponder my future possibilities for upward mobility. I wasted valuable time and energy worrying, when 90 percent of the things I concerned myself about never happened. I discovered in time the uselessness of worry. Don't permit your worries to test you unnecessarily" (p. 201).
It seems to me that Barry's central message or key to finding the blessing in adversity is believing that God's power extends over earthly rulers and circumstances, as Nebuchadnezzar learned. This confidence comes from trusting God's sovereign providence, for He is in control of human history. He is never surprised by the variety of events that occur in our world, for "in everything He is working for the good of those who love Him and who are called according to His purpose" (Romans 8:28).
If you have not ordered your copy of this book, may I encourage you to do so. I purchased my on Amazon.Com. It came in a couple of days. Amazing!
Barry Black is the chaplain to the U. S. Senate. He was formerly the Chief of Navy Chaplains. You will thrill to his book for it will speak to you just where you are.
