How refreshing and rewarding it is to discover a young man totally committed to God and willing to leave his comfort zone to go into the pastorate. I can think of no higher calling than being the pastor of a local church. The church is where it all happens and the mission of the church is evangelism and reaching the community and surrounding communities with the saving and keeping Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Jonathan (Jon) Chasteen is the young man. After six years of extraordinary dedication and service to Southwestern Christian University, he has accepted a new position with Victory Church that is being planted in the new Edmond, Oklahoma campus that will go into full swing this fall.
Victory Church, a church with approximately 8-9,000 members led by Pastor Mark Crow, has campuses in various locations, including Warr Acres, Oklahoma; Norman, Oklahoma; Corpus Christi, Texas; South Africa and now the newest church in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Jon Chasteen will serve as the Campus Pastor and administrator of the new church in Edmond, Oklahoma--Victory Church.
“Jon has been a loyal and dedicated member of the Southwestern Christian University family who will be greatly missed,” commented SCU President, Dr. Ed Huckeby. “However, this is a wonderful opportunity and we certainly wish him and his family well.”
Dr. Hugh H. Morgan, the third president of Southwestern said, "When I think of Southwestern Christian University, I think of Jon Chasteen. What a towering and impressive young man with an abundance of talent and Spizzerinctum. He knows how to do completed staff work, and does it will excellence. I for one will miss him when I visit the campus, and I will be in Bethany, Oklahoma next month for a Chaplains Ministries, IPHC Board meeting."
“Southwestern flows through my veins and it always will,” Chasteen stated. “Working at Southwestern has been one the biggest honors of my life. I have met and worked with some of the most incredible individuals throughout my time here. The current growth and excitement taking place at Southwestern Christian University is what I have dreamed for since I first came to Southwestern as a student in 1997. I have no doubt in my mind that Dr. Huckeby, the Board of Regents and the Administration are taking the university to new heights. It will be my honor to continue serving along side them in a new role, as a very involved alumnus of this great university.”
Accredited by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education and the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges, Southwestern Christian University is a private Christian liberal-arts university located in Bethany, Oklahoma. Since its founding in 1946, Southwestern has continued to focus on its primary mission of providing students a Christ-centered education, equipping them for a life of learning, leadership and service through the integration of faith, learning and living.
