Spouse of the Quarter for F. E. Warren Air Force Base, Cheyenne, WY (Oct-Dec 2010)
Mrs. Jennifer J. Marley, wife of Chaplain, Captain Derek Shane Marley, USAF was elected as the Spouse of the Quarter in January 2011 at the annual banquet which was held on February 25, 2011.
The photo to the left is that of Colonel Greg Tims, Wing Commander of the 90th Missile Wing at F. E. Warren AFB, Cheyenne, WY.
Jennifer Marley spearheaded the first-ever "Heart to Heart" event for the women and spouses of the Mighty Ninety. She led a dynamic team of 25 volunteers with 250 man-hours. A total of 152 women attended the luncheon, and they were inspired to greatness as well as challenged to network. She was enabled to get Mrs. Billie Cash, the mother of Navy Chaplain Carey H. Cash who wrote the book, A Table in the Presence.
Jennifer dedicated 40 hours to Kidz Church and trained 20 children on a weekly basis. Her efforts were instrumental in a 35% increase in worship service attendance.
She also put 25 hours of study into a weekly women's Bible study that encouraged and spiritual strengthened 12 women over a 3 month period.
Mrs. Marley is a true servant. She served lunch during a Grand Prix Rally to 100 Awana club members and their parents.
Furthermore, Jennifer provided a home cooked dish during the Airmen Ministry Center's Thanksgiving feed which warmed the hearts of 75 weary Airmen.
She was an outstanding leader during the chapel Christmas program, and dedicated 8 hours to instructing 25 young performers. A total of 75 church members were inspired with joy and holiday cheer. Jennifer also helped organized infant and toddler activities during a Spouses Helping Spouses celebration which positively impacted 60 kids and parents.
Her volunteer work goes beyond the base to Jessup Elementary where she provided classroom snacks and prepared a festival craft for 22 kindergartners.
Without a doubt, Mrs. Marley is one of Chapel's top volunteers and is a vital link in strategic outreach to 4,500 military members and their families, as well as civilian employees.
Chaplain Marley stated that Jennifer was nominated for the "Spouse of the Year" during the Annual Awards Banquet. She did not win the latter award, but received a medallion for her work.
[Editor's Comment: Francis E. Warren AFB near Cheyenne Wyoming is one of four strategic missile bases in the United States. The base has the distinction of evolving from a noteworthy frontier infantry and cavalry post into the largest, most modern strategic missile facility in the United States.
F. E. Warren Air Force Base operates 50 Peacekeeper Missiles and 150 Minuteman III Missiles as part of the United States strategic defense. Nearly 4,000 military personnel and 600 civilians operate and maintain the base which covers 5,866 acres at the main base near Cheyenne, Wyoming, and 220 remote missile facilities spread over 12,600 square miles in Wyoming, Nebraska, and Colorado.
Chaplain Derek Shane Marley and his wife, Jennifer, along with their two happy girls have been at F. E. Warren for three years--their first active duty assignment in the Air Force. During this first assignment Shane was deployed to Kuwait for four months.
Now, they are in the midst of making a paradigm change. Shane has been officially notified that he will be transferred to Laughlin AFB, TX, and report for duty there by July 8. However, he does not have written orders. Laughlin AFB is located right outside of Del Rio, TX, and is an AETC (Air Education and Training Command) training base for future pilots.
In January, Jennifer's father, Ellis Jackson, a resident of Godwin, NC, passed away on January 26, 2011. Shane was able to get emergency leave to bring Jennifer and their two girls to North Carolina for the funeral. Shane informs me that "Jennifer is doing well; however, she still has some tough moments after the death of her father. The girls, Emma, 6 years old, and Ava, 16 months old are very happy, and I couldn't ask for better kids." Shane reports that Jennifer's mother, Patsy Jackson is doing well and is currently visiting them for several weeks in Wyoming.
