[Editor's comment: I knew Jackie Powers at a distance. I remember him at one of the Emmanuel Gatherings we had in Charleston, SC, and recall how he loved to sing and that he had a great voice. I knew his brother Dan Powers when we were students at Holmes Bible College. Dan was a talented preacher, could play the piano (I remember he could play "Footsteps of Jesus") and any sport. I recall he turned down a scholarship to play quarterback at the University of South Carolina. I have always held him with high regard because of his call and commitment to follow Jesus.

I want to thank Stanley Oliver of Royston, GA, for calling me to alert me to the death of a beloved friend, Jackie Powers. I am grateful to Tim McKenzie, a director of McKenzie Funeral Home for sending this obituary via e-mail. I got to know him by one telephone call. What a friendly and helpful person he is. I remember a number of ministers of the Gospel in the South Carolina Conference of the Pentecostal Holiness Church.
