There is an old saying that goes like this, "Money is not everything; but, it is the next thing to oxygen."
When I was a student at Holmes Bible College in Greenville, SC, I used to listen to a black radio preacher on Sunday afternoons. He was an anointed and powerful preacher, and I learned a great deal from him about preaching and the Word of God. I can hear him now saying, "Folks, Salvation is free; but it takes money to pay the preacher."
I would say, "Hugh's News is free of charge; but it takes money to pay the bills."
I am confident that you do not expect me to pay for high speed Internet services, ink cartridges, reproduction paper, HP Premium Plus Photo Paper, maintenance and service fees to send out the newsletter by Mail Chimp, consultant fees, telephone and fax expenses, and occasional travel, to name a few.
Although I have central heat and air conditioning in our home, it gets awfully hot in my office over the garage and up near the roof. As a result, I have had to invest in a window air conditioning unit. It looks like that I will have to purchase a new desktop computer. The Hewlett Packard computer I now have is slowing down and is coming of age to get a new model with more memory and speed. It has been the best computer I've ever had. And I am grateful for one of my readers, a man and his wife, who purchased this computer for Hugh's News number of years ago. Most of all, I am grateful to God for protecting it from viruses and a crash.
When I ask for money for this ministry, I try to do it the Biblical way. So, if anyone gets offended, he or she will be offended because of the Word. Jesus said, "So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened" (Luke 11:9-10, NIV).
James, a half brother of our Lord Jesus Christ, wrote in his epistle, " . . .you do not have because you do not ask" (James 4:2, NKJV).
