Hugh Morgan to preach at Bethany Korean United Methodist Church in Wayne, NJ, March 14, 2010

One of the many joys for the director of Chaplains Ministries, IPHC is to visit our chaplains at least once every two years. It is indeed a delight and a personal pleasure to visit them, their spouses, and families.

As I compose this e-mail, I am in Fairfield, NJ, at a Hampton Inn & Suites, a short distance from Wayne, NJ, where Chaplain, Captain and Mrs. John Kwon (Hannah), USAFR reside. John is a graduate of Southwestern Christian University, and Fuller Theological Seminary. He is an ordained minister of the IPHC with his membership in the Agape Mission Church and his ordination credentials in the Korean Conference in Los Angeles, CA.

Bishop John Kim, his pastor and conference superintendent, seconded John to serve on the multiple pastoral staff of Senior Pastor Paul Chang, a Spirit-filled Korean/American United Methodist pastor, who founded the Bethany Korean United Methodist Church in Wayne, NJ, 25 years ago. It is a rather large church with several worship services both in Korean and English.

John is the minister of education, pastor to the English speaking congregation that is composed of professional families, e. g., medical doctors, dentists, surgeons, psychologists, nurses, bankers, professors in universities, etc. In addition, John is the pastor to the youth and young adults, many of whom are in colleges and universities. He conducts weekly Bible studies with them and has special events and retreats for them.

In addition, John is an Air Force Reserve chaplain who is attached to McGuire AFB, NJ, for his training and experience.

I will be preaching in two English speaking worship services on Sunday, March 14, one at 9:15 a. m. and the other one at 1:30 p. m.  Don't forget the time change on Saturday night, March 13. We move the clocks ahead one hour tonight. I am composing this newsletter on Saturday evening.

It is stormy weather here . . . heavy unrelenting rain, strong howling winds, violent and fiery lightning that causes balls of fire when it hits the ground or a target. This is not my kind of weather. But I know tomorrow will be better, the rain will subside, the wind will calm down, and the lightning will cease

You may be going through a storm in your own life--one of uncertainty about your future, bills piling up that you are presently unable to pay, a broken relationship, and maybe even away from God. Now, is the time to call on Him Who cares for you. His name is Jesus. The Apostle Peter wrote in 1 Peter 5: 6-7:

"Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you."
NKJV

Tonight I thank God for all of our IPHC chaplains serving around the world. They are there when our young men and women in the armed forces go in this world of ours. It is comforting to know they are there to being hope, comfort, and a message of salvation to America's best youth. I pray that many will come to know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord of their lives.

Have a good day on Sunday, March 15. Melvine will be the featured speaker at Christian Life Worship Center in Athens at the 10:50 morning worship service. Stephanie, our daughter, will share her testimony and sing about three songs.

Lord willing, I will be flying back to Atlanta on Monday morning.  Remember me and my family in your prayers.

Here's a good Scripture to memorize:

Habakkuk 3:19, "The Lord God is my Strength, and He will give me the speed of a deer and bring me safely over the mountain" (The Living Bible).
