The Monday morning session of January 31, 2011 in Falcon, North Carolina celebrating the IPHC Merger Centennial gave way to putting this unique event in historical perspective. Clink on the hyperlinks to read the following papers presented that morning: Dr. Dan Woods, "Meet Sam Page"; Dr. Kristen Welch, "Women Preachers in the IPHC"; Dr. Vinson Synan, "The Spirit of Falcon - 1911 Merger."
Here's how to access these documents: http://www.iphc.org/archives/historical-papers-presented-2011-merger-centennial
The January 31, 1911 merger of the Fire-Baptized Holiness Church with the Pentecostal Holiness Church was the first example of organic unity for Classical Pentecostals in the U.S.A. In an effort to put the event in the context of wider Christianity, one can also find "'Full Communion': A Pentecostal Prayer" by Dr. Harold D. Hunter. This article was published in Ecumenical Trends 37:1 (January 2008).
In addition to photos of Drs. Wood, Welch and Synan, the images that accompany this note are taken from the centennial exhibit provided by the IPHC Archives & Research Center for those who came to Falcon, North Carolina. A like exhibit will be on display for the March 30, 2011 centennial celebration in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Finally, we would also like to announce a newly designed IPHC Time line. Please note that while the time line will be constantly reviewed for revision, for the moment several events do not have images which unfortunately allows the boxes to display random ads but this will be corrected in the near future. As this project is a work-in-progress, one can stay up with changes on the timeline by using an RSS feed.
[Editor's Comment: You will find these papers most interesting. You will learn things about our history that you never knew before. The Centennial Celebration of the Merger was probably the best event I have ever attended in the IPHC. All events have been good in the past, some better than others; but this one topped them all. I give a grade of Copacetic--superb, above all expectations, on the cutting edge, marvelous.]
