Bethany, Oklahoma–-Officials at Southwestern Christian University in Bethany announced this past week that the Southwestern Christian University Board of Regents has approved the construction of a new Resident Hall/Multipurpose Building. This facility is being built in response to a recent dramatic rise in undergraduate enrollment.
SCU experienced a 66% increase in undergraduate enrollment in the 2010 Fall semester, stretching residence halls to maximum capacity. This IPHC university has also recorded a 58% undergraduate growth rate in the current, Spring 2011, semester, compared to Spring, 2010.
The ceremonial groundbreaking will be held at the University, located at 7210 NW 39th Expressway, on Thursday, March 10 at 10:30 a.m. The new building, expected to be ready for occupancy in Fall 2011, will not only include housing accommodations for 64 resident students, but will also include a first-floor conference center which can be divided into three separate rooms for classrooms or meeting space.
“Southwestern is experiencing significant growth due to several factors, including expanded degree program options and our affiliation with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics,” stated Dr. Ed Huckeby, who was inaugurated as President of Southwestern Christian University in May of 2010. “We are excited to begin construction on this new facility and anticipate this to be ‘only the beginning’ for SCU growth in the future.” The public is cordially invited to attend the groundbreaking.
