Dr. Vinson Synan, one of our own IPHC favored sons, has done it again. According to Jack Hayford, Dr. Synan's new book, An Eyewitness Remembers the Century of the Holy Spirit, is "truly a once-in-a-lifetime book, this memoir offers rare and fascinating insights that will rivet and refresh all who walk in the fullness of God's Spirit, as well as professors, students, and curious onlookers."
For the first time ever, premier Pentecostal historian Vinson Synan candidly shares exciting behind-the-scenes stories and personal assessments of some of the most important events in church history in the amazing twentieth century.
What others are saying about the book:
"A deeply moving account" -- Richard J. Mouw, president and professor of Christian philosophy, Fuller Theological Seminary.
"This is a must read history" -- Francis MacNutt,
Ph. D., co-founder, Christian Healing Ministries.
"A delightful and perceptive journey through a century of controversy and incredible growth . . . a fascinating story" -- David Edwin Harrell, Jr., Daniel Breeden Eminent Scholar in the Humanities, emeritus, Auburn University.
Dr. Ronald W. Carpenter, Sr., presiding bishop, International Pentecostal Holiness Church wrote this about the book:
"In this book, Dr. Vinson Synan gives evidence of why he is the dean of Pentecostal/charismatic church historians! From his personal perspective as a classical Pentecostal, he provides invaluable candid, colorful and perceptive insights and observations into the fruit of the Azusa Street revival as manifested through the faceted lens of twentieth century personalities and events. Dr. Synan's warm, user-friendly style, along with his ability to provide the smallest details bristling with significance, make the reader feel personally involved in taking this Pentecostal journey all the way from Azusa Street to the twenty-first century. This is a must for every person desirous of identifying with his or her Pentecostal roots and pedigree."
Dr. Vinson Synan, Ph.D. is professor of church history and dean emeritus of the School of Divinity, Regent University. He founded and pastored four churches and has held various denominational offices in the IPHC. In 1970 he co-founded the Society for Pentecostal Studies, which has given institutional shape to Pentecostal research. He has published numerous scholarly and popular articles and essays and many books. He and his wife, Carol, live in Chesapeake, Virginia.

[Editor's note: I just got my copy of the book today in the mail. It was a surprise gift from the author, my good friend, Vinson Synan, for over half a century. Vinson is a gifted writer and makes stories come alive. What a historian! He and Carol were married 50 years ago, as well as Hugh and Melvine Morgan on Saturday, August 13, 1960. Vinson and Carol were married at the First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Richmond, VA. The Rev. Mr. Edward Boyce performed their wedding ceremony. The Rev. Mr. Eugene Baulding performed our wedding ceremony at the Draper Pentecostal Holiness Church in Draper, NC (now called Eden). This is our year of celebration. I am delighted that I can promote Vinson's book.]
