Emmanuel College Welcomes Dr. Vinson Synan
Dr. Vinson Synan, renown historian of the fastest growing segment of Christianity–the Pentecostal/Charismatic–is on campus speaking in several classes today, Wednesday, September 8, 2010, and will speak in the School of Christian Ministries Chapel Thursday, September 9, 2010, at 10 a. m., in Taylor Auditorium.
Dr. Synan has published 17 books about the global dimensions of this movement of some 5 million Protestant, Catholics and Orthodox Christians (1 in 4 Christians according to a Barna survey). Dr. Synan’s work has involved bringing together Pentecostals/Charismatics from various denominations and regions of the world in ecumenical worship and ministry, such as the International Conference on the Holy Spirit in 1987 at the New Orleans Superdome.
Synan taught history at Emmanuel College and once served as the Director of the Holy Spirit Research Center at Oral Roberts University. He also served as General Secretary of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church, as well as an Assistant General Superintendent. He served as the Interim President of Southwestern College (now Southwestern Christian University), and retired Dean, School of Divinity, Regent University. He is the leading IPHC Church historian, as well as the Charismatic/Pentecostal world. He is a prolific writer. His latest book, Eyewitness Remembers the Century of the Holy Spirit., is a book every Pentecostal should have in his/her home.
